Women We Admire Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 - 1962)
|
Eleanor Roosevelt was the First Lady from 1933 - 1945. She was
known as a supporter of the New Deal, an ardent advocate for civil rights and a
strong force in the formation of the United Nations. Ultimately appointed to the UN, she chaired the committee
that drafted and approved the Universal Declaration for Human Rights. Mrs. Roosevelt was also a tireless
campaigner for the rights of women.
One of the quotes that she is best known
for is "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." Wise words
from a wise woman.
