Vaun's Thoughts on Collaboration

Vaun Swanson Greetings!,

This month we are exploring ways in which our lives can be better when we collaborate with others. Do you believe it? I do. Our recent BEYOND LABELS fashion event fundraiser was a prime example. As we began talking about the need to raise some money for programming at Pomegranate Place, Jennifer Davidson, professional photographer and model, stepped forward and offered to recruit designers and models for a fashion show. Astrid Koch and Janae Aasen, both graphic designers, volunteered to coordinate the event and produce the tickets and brochures. Professional chef, Leah Thompson, stepped up to oversee all the food preparation and service, and Meredith Bishop, Accenture Executive, coordinated all the volunteers. In all, over 50 women contributed to this fantastic event, raising over $4000. See what women can do when we collaborate! The possibilities are endless. Come join us!

Women We Admire Wilma Mankiller (1945 - 2010)
July Cara Art Wilma Mankiller was the first female Chief of the Cherokee Nation and served as Principal Chief for 10 years. She was the recipient of numerous awards including Ms. Magazine's Woman of the Year and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Chief Mankiller fervently believed in the power of collaboration. Gadugi, working together for the common good, is a deeply held belief within the Cherokee people. She is known for many successful community development projects. Each project was based on the premise that only by working together would a successful outcome occur.  Wilma Mankiller proved the value of collaboration every day in her work with the Cherokee Nation.
