Cigar 101
Body = Strength
Myth: The body and strength of a cigar are the same and/or related.
Truth: Body, in terms of flavor (taste+aroma) profile, does not necessarily correlate with the Strength of a cigar. Strength refers to nicotine potency or the intensity of spice - two separate factors. Body is a flavor descriptor which can refer to the depth, breadth, and richness of a tobacco (flavor).
So, a strong cigar can be medium bodied, while a full-bodied cigar can be mild or medium strength. As an example, imagine that chicken has a mild body, while beef has a richer body, yet both can be spicy/strong, depending on how they are seasoned. |
International Pipe Smoking Day Febuary 20, 2010
We envision a worldwide communion of pipe-smokers that is bound together by a shared love for pipe-smoking, mutual respect, and goodwill · We envision a society that respects the informed choice and adult use of smoking tobacco · We envision a world where governments act in good faith and integrity, and have the political will and personal courage to express their values appropriately through legislative means · This means that as a group we are united and strong in our beliefs, have understanding, patience, wisdom, enjoy the philosophical aspect of pipe-smoking, and seek to promote pipe-smoking as part of a lifestyle that can be thoroughly enjoyable to adults through the responsible use of tobacco. | |
Federal Tax Bill Proposes Increased Pipe Tobacco Tax-Equitable to Current Smoking Tobacco Tax
Tax Bill Receiving Very Little Attention at this Point
January 22, 2010 - HR 4439, the Tobacco Tax Parity Act of 2010, introduced on January 13, 2010, would tax pipe tobacco at the same rate ($24.78 per pound) as roll-your-own tobacco. The sponsors are Representatives Steve Cohen (Dem., TN) and Lloyd Doggett (Dem., TX). HR4439 has been referred to the House Ways & Means Committee of which Mr. Doggett, an anti-tobacco advocate, is a member. The bill is not yet on that committee's radar scope.
The Cigar Association of America (CAA) and Public Strategies-Washington (PSW), IPCPR's federal lobbyists, are actively working on the issue to ensure its defeat before it gains any momentum and advances through the legislative process.
Interestingly, that last month Liggett Group tried to get similar legislation included in the Senate's proposed health care legislation currently being considered in Congress. That effort was unsuccessful.
As new information develops we will update you.

Pipe Corner BRIAR
Briar, or bruyére in French, is a dense burl found on the roots of the Heath tree (Erica arborea). The Heath tree, which actually looks more like a scraggly bush, is found throughout the dry and hot areas along the Mediterranean coast.
It is important to note that a burl "wood growth" is an aberration of the tree's natural characteristics: roots, trunk, branches, leaves. To this day, this unique, naturally occurring "growth" is considered the ultimate pipe making material.

TABAK Especial Negra or Dulce
Drew Estate's Tabak Especial cigars are Available in deep maduro (Negra) and an exquisite Connecticut Shade (Dulce). Tabak Especial is infused with dark roasted, fair trade Nicaraguan coffee.
Even cigar smokers that only smoke non-flavored cigars will enjoy an occational smoke of this calibur. Quality is quality and cigar smokers can recognize it when they smoke it. The difference between an infused cigar and a cigar that is just flavored are worlds apart. You will not be disappointed. This cigar comes in a robusto size and a petit size. This is a good smoke for the morning time or late evening.
