Confused?

Is this the Kindred Spirit Network newsletter or is it the Real Success newsletter?

Let me explain...

Over the past few months, I listened to "well meaning" advice given to me that said I should make this newsletter a key part of my business. (Real Success Ltd).  "To grow, it needs to be commercial!", I was told.  "Make it part of Real Success - as your business and The Kindred Spirit Network are the same thing!", they said.  "You are giving away too much for free!", they exclaimed.   All the advice was supportive, loving and well meant...

So I listened and I re-named it. I recorded a short video explaining  to you that I might need to make a charge for the newsletter to enable me to grow the circulation and extend the content.

But this has played on my mind.

The newsletter was originally set up simply to bring like minded people like you, together, through ad hoc networking meetings and to offer some "coffee break" reading that is quick and easy to read, and can help you make sense of your journey through business and life.

It was never intended to be a money making enterprise for me.

Therefore, I have decided to return to the original "Kindred Spirit" name, ethos and format as this best represents what the newsletter is about.

Also, I do not intend to make any charge for this newsletter.  This means that you can also pass it on to anyone that you think would be helped by its contents without them having to "sign up" for something that will cost them money.

So is there a lesson in this (as there always is...)?

Yes, and its this...

You must listen to your heart and not to the "well meaning" advice from others that may be good and sound advice but conflicts with what you feel strongly you should do.  The only place from which to build your life and your business is from your heart.  Anything less is a painful compromise that will eventually catch up with you.

So I hope you enjoy the articles in this newsletter.  Some are inspired by other Kindred Spirits.  Some are inspired by my own experiences.  But ALL of the content in this newsletter is inspired by the human spirit.  And in sharing our challenges and our victories, we become "Kindred Spirits" in business and life.

My dearest wish and the reason I spend time preparing these articles is for you to have a better day, make a better decision in life or business or to be a better person as a result of reading or receiving this newsletter.  I hope this is true of this edition, previous editions and all additions in the future.

In love and life,

Love Yourself

The Sand Dune...
Sanddune"Let's climb up the sand dune" said Joe excitedly.  "Then we can roll down like we did when we were kids!"

Ben looked at Joe and smiled. "You're mad Joe, we can't climb that sand dune - its too high!

Joe was already making his way towards the sand dune.  "Where is your sense of adventure Ben?" shouted Joe.  "Come on - it will be fun!"

Ben sighed and started after Joe.  "Wait for me then Joe, I'm coming with you!"

They both ran like children towards the sand dune and started to make their way upwards, climbing through the sand.  Laughing and breathless, they stumbled, fell and got up again.  Joe was making the best progress.

"Come on Ben, keep going - we are nearly there!"

Ben looked up at Joe who was a few metres ahead of him.  "It's too hard Joe, it feels like I'm going backwards rather than forwards.  The sand just moves underneath my feet!"

"I know" shouted Joe.  "It feels like you aren't getting anywhere, but just keeping putting one foot in front of the other!  Crawl on your hands and knees if you have to - but just keep going!"

The two men climbed, crawled and laughed their way to the top of the sand dune where, exhausted from their journey, they collapsed into a heap together.

Joe was the first to speak.  "That was hard wasn't it Ben?"

Ben gasped for air.  "Yes Joe, I'd never have carried on if it wasn't for you encouraging me to keep going.  The sand just sucked the energy out of me but knowing you were climbing with me, kept me going when it got really tough."

Joe put his arm around his friend.  "I know Ben.  But you helped me too.  Knowing you were behind me all the way kept me going too."

The two men looked out from the top of the dune.  It was steep and the way down seemed even higher than the climb. "Just look what we climbed" said Joe.  "It didn't seem that steep when we were actually climbing but gosh, this is high!"

Ben looked down the slope.  "I know Joe.  How did we do it?  I'm actually more scared of getting down than I was of the climb.  I was full of enthusiasm for the climb, but now I've succeeded, I'm actually more scared about getting back down!"

The men laughed together at their achievement and how they had succeeded. "We must have been so focussed on the climb that we didn't realise how steep it actually was!" said Joe. "So are you ready to head down Ben?"

"Of course" said Ben.  "Last one down buys the beers!"

And the two men stumbled, rolled and tumbled down the dune, not caring how quickly, elegantly or effectively they undertook the journey down the slope.  The sand gave way under their feet, just as it had on the climb, but they simply let it happen as their momentum took them forwards.

Exhausted but exhilarated, the two men made it safely to the bottom of the dune.

"What a laugh!" said Ben.

"That was brilliant!" said Joe.

And they both had already forgotten just how difficult the climb to the top had been....

Climbing sand dunes is just like life and business.

The sand moves beneath our feet as we try to find the right way to move forward.  Sometimes it feels like we are making little or no progress.

But often we are so close to our challenges, that we don't see the progress we are making.  Then, one day we turn around and realise just how much progress we HAVE made - despite the drain of the journey.

And along that journey, we need the encouragement of others to keep us going - particularly when the going gets tough.  We need the help of "Kindred Spirits" who are prepared to be with us when we need support.

Finally, when we do succeed, the journey seems easy and quick. When we find what it is we are destined to do, it doesn't matter if the sand beneath our feet keeps moving.  We know where we are heading and we can tumble and fall but we still make progress and love the feeling it gives us.

So are you climbing sand dunes in your life and in business?  If you are, keep climbing as the journey down will be so much fun...

Real progress?  Is it in inches or yards?

How do you measure your progress?

Do you use inches or yards?

(or centimetres and metres for the new generation...)

When we are working towards our goals, we often look to move forward as fast as possible and get frustrated when progress is slow or doesn't appear to be as fast as we would wish it to be.  However, progress can often be made in ways that we don't notice or even without our knowledge.

"Outward" progress is often visible and evident to us and others.  This can often be the "big" moves in our careers or business.  Perhaps we take on our first employee, perhaps we hit our targets and make a big purchase, or perhaps we treat ourselves or our families to the big experience.  This sort of progress looks and feels "big" and is obvious, tangible and makes us feel good.  And this looks like progress in yards to those that are watching.

"Inward" progress however, is less tangible but is actually, much more important.  Inward progress is about finding what we are born to do.  It's those moments of inward reflection, deep and profound understanding of our destiny, or clarity of the steps, actions and decisions that we need to move us forward.  This sort of progress is invisible to others and can be hard for us to spot.  It can  definitely feel like inches rather than yards, but is progress that is never reversed.

Outward progress that appears to others to be "big" can often be reversed. You can lose the big house, the big car, the big pay cheque. And you can go back in yards.

Inward progress is irreversible.  You can't go backwards when you move forwards in your understanding of yourself.  You can't lose knowledge, clarity and purpose.  And you simply can't go back - even in inches.

So Real progress is always in inches and not in yards.

If you aren't making the progress that is measured in yards - focus on the progress in inches.  As it is the inches that actually move you forward....

Thanks to my great friend and totally decent bloke - Julian Smith, who inspired this article.  Julian is helping business owners make Real progress through his work with The Alternative Board.  Check out Julian's offer at Julian Smith.  And he can help you with your inches and your yards...

Mystical Moments
Love Yourself

He simply had nowhere to go.

He needed to pay some crucial bills and the money had gone.  All of it.  Bank accounts were more than empty and nothing remained.

The end of the rope had been reached and there simply seemed to be no solution.

Then he checked again.  One bank account was full.

Where had this come from?  How did it happen?  24 hours later and it would have been too late.  24 hours before and it would not have been noticed.

The money arrived from somewhere unexpected and unusual.  It arrived on the only day possible to make a difference.

The end of the rope had been reached and then...more rope appeared.

Miracle or Mystical?

You decide.
