It also contains the new sections called "Get Real - tips to help you in life", "Get Results - tips to help you in business or at work" and "Music that moves me" - music that has a meaning for a reader of the Real Success newsletter.  There is also an article about giving up time for others, together with the regular  features - "Books that Inspire me" and the popular "Mystical Moments".

There is much to read, dip into and help you.  Come back to the email if you don't have time to read everything in one go.  You do have time to do everything you want to dom of course - the key is to decide what's important to you.

The Greatest Gift.

What is the greatest gift that we can give to another human being?

Is it love?  Is it money?  Is it affection?   No.  The greatest gift that we can give is time.

All other gifts can be reclaimed, rebuilt or refreshed.  If we love another, they can love us back.  If we give money to another, we can get money back.  If we are affectionate towards others, they can return our affection.

However, when you offer someone your time, it is physically, spiritually and cosmically not possible for that person to return that time to you.  Yes, they can offer you some time in return, but time is a finite resource.  Time is specific and an hour on a specific day only occurs on that day.  It is not possible to be given or receive back a Monday afternoon.  Once that afternoon has passed, it cannot be reclaimed.  However, if on a Monday afternoon, I give you £10,000, you could give me back at any time in the future, £10,000 and it would still be £10,000.  The Monday afternoon on a specific date cannot be replaced.

Therefore, time given or spent with others when they need our support is the greatest gift that we can give.  We will often find that on our busiest days, and in our most stressful moments, that our friends, family, colleagues and associates will ask for our help.  In these high pressure moments, the act of giving away such precious time is a true gift.  It is in fact "Real Giving" and demonstrates the power of being real.

So when the day is busy, you are under pressure and can't afford to do anything other than complete your tasks for the day, do not be surprised if you receive a call from a friend in need that asks for your help.  And in that moment, you will be granted the opportunity to decide to give the Real gift of time or to prioritise your day, with you at its centre.  However, if you place others needs at the centre of your being from time to time, your gift to others will be reciprocated - often in ways that you least expect it.

Try it next time you have a busy day.  Give a gift of time and watch what happens and how you feel.  And experience the Power of Being Real for others.

Do you love your job or your business?

Can you use the word "love" to describe what you do?

Do you find the word "love" incompatible with your work or business?

Many business owners and individuals in careers, state that using words like "love" in a business context is uncomfortable and inappropriate.  "Business is about results, numbers, money, success and recognition.  And you can't use the word love to describe results and numbers..."

So why is it that we can tell others we love our partners, our family, children, homes, cars, friends and holidays?  We are comfortable using the word "love" when we describe our personal lives.  So if you can't use the word "love" to describe your work or business, what does this tell you?

Quite simply, if you don't love your business, your work or your job, change it.  I know you'll provide tons of excuses but take a long, hard, deep look at where you are and what you are doing.

If you don't love what you do, you won't be able to perform to your best, give the energy you need to succeed and eventually, you will run out of steam.  Yes, you can succeed without loving what you do.  But how sad is the thought that you could spend your life working in a business or job that doesn't fill you with joy?

There are many that do love their businesses and their work.  This isn't a distant dream for the lucky few.  To "love your your work" is an attainable and real prospect for each of us.

Think about it today.  Ponder on where you are in your business, work or career. And if you don't love what you do, change something before it's too late and you look back one day and say..."if only I'd....."

Get Real!  Tips to help you in life.

"So how was your day today" said John, wondering what reaction he was going to get from Phil.  The last time John had asked Phil, he seemed depressed and uncertain of his future.

"I've had a great day thanks - things are looking up!"

John was surprised but delighted in Phil's change of mood

And isn't life just like this?

One day time can drag, life seems hard and progress seems uncomfortably slow. The next day something can change, or shift and life seems to move on again.

So how can we deal with the bad days?

Here are 5 tips for coping with those days when life seems a struggle:-

  1. Speak to someone.  When things get tough, we tend to shut down (particularly men) and disappear into our caves.  We can feel emotional and can't face seeing anyone at all.  But staying shut away doesn't help us climb out of our caves, holes or depressed moments.  As human beings, we are social beings and need contact with others to make us feel loved, special and secure.  So recognise this and call someone when you are feeling low.  You'll be surprised how just talking to someone else can lift your spirits or put things into perspective.
  2. Go outside.  Nature has a magical way of hearing our troubles and healing our hearts and minds.  If you feel trapped by your circumstances, a walk outside (whatever the weather) can re-connect you with your inner voice and show you the beauty that surrounds you.  The fresh air can clear the head and the exercise can stimulate the positive corners of your mind.
  3. Take action.  When time seems to be dragging and we seem unable to get anything done, simply by doing something we can make ourselves feel better.  So pick something small or something that you know you enjoy doing.  It might not be the most important task or anything on your goal list, but just getting started on taking action can lift us out of the doldrums.  You'll find that once you get started, your feel like you have accomplished something and you can move on to the important tasks.
  4. "This too will pass".  When we feel down, our minds can make us believe that the period could go on forever.  Great days tend to fly by with time passing in a blink of an eye.  Unproductive days can feel like they are going to stretch into more days, months or years.  However, we know that tough times don't last.  Yes, some of life's challenges can be suffocating for a while - even a long while.  But bad days at work or in business will pass. We have to remember that time does move on.  We can't stop this - its a universal law. So even bad days will pass.  And sometimes, this is all we need to know to get through it.
  5. Help someone else.  When we are feeling down - one of the best ways to lift ourselves out of the self defeating "feeling sorry for ourselves" trap is to help someone else.  When we offer to comfort, assist or help another, we can't help but feel better.  This is another universal law.  We help someone on their journey of life, we help ourselves on our journey.  If your business is struggling - help someone else with theirs.  If your love life is empty, comfort someone else who is hurting.  If you think you are suffering, help someone else who you know is suffering too.  In every case, you will realise that your troubles are less than you thought and you'll feel better for helping someone else.  Try it.  And then let the universe help you in return.
So the secret to dealing with the bad days is to take your focus off yourself and focus on "action" and "others".  If you take any sort of action and interact with others in any way, you'll feel better and time will begin to speed up again. But then time is just time isn't it?  It just feels faster and slower depending on your mood!

The Emyth Revisited

Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited should be required reading for anyone thinking about starting a business or for those who have already taken that fateful step.

The title refers to Gerber's belief that entrepreneurs often have good but distracting ideas and therefore make poor businesspeople.

He goes on to explain the stages of business growth, the pitfalls along the way and explains how important it is to work ON your business rather than IN your business.

This book is a classic and easy to read.
Mystical Moments
Love Yourself

I arrive late for the meeting which started 15 minutes ago.  As I enter, I recognise a man at the table and he clearly recognises me.

At the end of the meeting, we talk and try to find how we know each other.  Eventually, we remember that we met 3 years ago.

I recall that at the time we met (on a Presentation Skills course he was running) that I wanted to work with this man and felt that one day our paths might meet again.  However, I was working for an employer at the time and had no intention of working for myself.

Three years later, we meet again.  He is part of a business that a good friend has recently joined.  I am running my own business. We talk and the possibility of meeting up to discuss joint opportunities is discussed.

Three years had passed and now our paths had crossed again.

Just a coincidence?

Or perhaps a universally guided synchronicity?

Mystical?

You decide.
