Is it an age thing?Does it happen when we feel happy or sad?Can we ever really find it?The last Kindred Spirit meeting found us discussing the concept of trying to find who we are against a backdrop of challenges and difficulties.
We all agreed that there comes a moment or perhaps moments in our lives when we want the rollercoaster to stop so that we can get off and find our true purpose. Those days when we feel that our souls are getting suffocated by the pressures of life and worries of survival. This could be in business, our personal lives or a combination of both. It could be health issues, bereavement, family upheaval or major change. For many of us, there comes a moment when we feel so distant from our purpose that we wonder if we will ever find it.
And then something happens.
The sun comes out and warms our cheeks for the first time in weeks...
We notice children playing without a care or worry....
We hear a story of another soul much more tortured and dealing with much greater burdens than those we face....
And a light goes on...
We realise that life is a treasure despite our difficulties. We realise that our challenges, however great they may feel to us, are always eclipsed by another that we may or may not know.
And we realise that in the triteness of the obvious, there lies a truth that is undeniable. We are blessed. The fog clears and the spirit rises. We feel ourselves lifted by a force much greater than us to a place of peaceful security. And we accept that there is a purpose to our lives. One that we must grasp with both hands, and no longer leave lying deep in the recesses of our hearts and minds.
And we step out. We take a risk. We show courage. And we climb back onto the rollercoaster for another spin round the sharp bends and up and down the slopes of life.
During a moment of descent and ascent on my own rollercoaster, I wrote a song (since recorded and circulated to those that came to the meeting) that tried to convey the contrasting emotions of feeling lost but realising that life had so much to offer.
In the spirit of helping others, I share the words to the song in the hope that someone may just realise that life is beautiful, even when we feel lost....

"I'm here somewhere" If I knew then what I know now
If only I'd been shown somehow
How our lives could be so wonderful
If I had listened to my heart
And if only I had made a start
Now my life would be so colourful
Chorus
So now I'm searching here to find
The answers lost inside my mind
And I'm hoping that I've still got time
- Time to find me,
'Cos I know I'm here somewhere
If I had followed all my dreams
And known that life's not what it seems
I'd have seen it was so mystical
If I had watched more children play
And seen the beauty of each day
I'd have known that time was magical
Chorus
So now I'm searching here to find
The answers lost inside my mind
And I'm hoping that I've still got time
- Time to find me,
'Cos I know I'm here somewhere
If I had shared my hopes and fears
With those that loved me through the years
I'd have known that dreams were possible
And if I had left my fears behind
And let my destiny unwind
I'd have found that life was beautiful
Chorus
So now I'm searching here to find
The answers lost inside my mind
And I'm hoping that I've still got time
- Time to find me,
'Cos I know I'm here somewhere
