The bird that knows where to go...
Faith, coupled with action.
I watched with fascination as a small bird, flying very fast, disappeared into the dense canopy of an oak tree. So dense were the leaves that it was impossible to see what happened next, though I knew that it had remained inside.
I wondered how the little bird found its opening through the leaves with such a speed and then managed to gently align its fragile body on the branch it chose to land upon-and all within a fraction of a second. Not to mention the impossible to imagine flying manoeuvres required - the banking, curling, the vertical and horizontal adjustments, the deceleration and finally-the landing.
Was it the power of memory? Was it experience and clever calculation? Or was it just instinct or intuition? But how does instinct know which way the branches of a tree have grown when no two are the same? So is there another more obvious explanation?...
Perhaps the little bird just.... flew? Perhaps it just did what it was built to do? Perhaps it had faith that in spite of not being able to see how things work out, that if (and only if) it stayed the course, the details would be taken care of by another force? And that an opening would appear and a twig would be found. In fact, had the little bird slowed down enough to carefully and logically inspect the tree first (the prudent thing to do that the left brained logics amongst us would propose) it would have actually lost its lift, become exhausted and fallen to the ground....
So is this just like reaching for our dreams?
It isn't memory, experience or detailed calculations that are the deciding factors in our destiny. It is faith coupled with action. A belief in life and all that it gives us, and the actions that we take on a daily basis that demonstrate this trust. Then our leaves will be parted and the branch will be found.
So the little bird, with fragile body and a tiny brain - knows how to fly. And so do you. So open your wings and believe all will be well. And with the right faith and some positive action, it will be...
Thanks to TUT and the universe for the inspiration for this weeks thoughts.
