Life is a Game of Chess
Life is a game of chess.
Chess Now it's your move.

"Hurry up " he said.  "The game can't carry on till you make your move".

"I know" I said.  "I'm just thinking about the best move to make".

I stared at the board with all the pieces placed so carefully.  I could see that I had a number of choices of move to make and tried to plan ahead a few moves too.  But my brain was hurting.  Each time I tried to think ahead a few moves, they all got jumbled up.  I looked at my Bishop and slid him across the board.  I wondered how my opponent would react?  I paused and waited.  My heart began to pound in my chest...

"Aha!" he said.  "So that's what you are thinking!  OK then, I'll do this..." and he moved his queen and I   realised that I hadn't anticipated his move. "I know what you are thinking" he said, "but don't be frightened, just trust in the game and make your move.  I'll respond when you do and our game can continue."

And isn't life just like this?  The game of chess and life grinds to a halt if we just watch and never make a move.  The universe responds when we move and sometimes in ways we were least expecting.  But if we trust in the universal life force that surrounds us, we simply have to respond by making our move and then the universe will respond again.  And our life continues.

From time to time the universe will move and say gently to us "check".  And it will appear we are stuck.  But we aren't.  There is a way out of "check".  But we have to work hard to find it.  That's the idea of a "check" move by our universe - it often stops us from making moves that might harm us, or may even seem to block us from our destiny.  However, the test we are being given is to look deeper, further and wider.  The next move is there-and the universe knows it.   It is only when our game is destined to end that the universe makes its final move into "checkmate".  Every difficulty up until that point was simply a "check" move.

And when the final moves does take place, we simply start a new game beyond the doorway in the next room. And the game continues....
