Gulf Coast residents are invited to Rock the Runway in support of Distinguished Young Women

Rock the Runway presents "Closet Fashionistas" contest
This year, Rock the Runway will host the "Closet Fashionistas" contest. Mobile and Baldwin County teens age 13-18 are invited to create a look from their own closet or wardrobe that corresponds with one of five hot trends provided on the Rock the Runway Facebook page. Distinguished Young Women will accept photo submissions February 13-24 emailed to rocktherunway@wellbornideas.com. We will display entries for the contest on the Rock the Runway Facebook page and the general public is invited to vote for their favorite look by "liking" the photos. Voting will begin February 27 and run through March 2. Each of the five winners will get to work directly with Amy E. Goodman and local style experts in developing the looks for the runway on March 29. Click here for official contest rules.

National Be Your Best Self Week offers scholarship opportunity for Distinguished Young Women participants
Following three successful years of outreach across the United States, Distinguished Young Women is gearing up for the fourth annual National Be Your Best Self Week to be held April 23-27. During this week long effort, Distinguished Young Women participants across the country will positively impact the lives of girls and boys in their communities by bringing the simple and motivating message of the Be Your Best Self program into Boys & Girls Clubs, schools and other community organizations. Participants create unique presentations to teach the program's five points: Be healthy, Be involved, Be studious, Be ambitious, and Be responsible. Last year, the Be Your Best Self message impacted more than 5,000 young people.
For the second year, Distinguished Young Women will be awarding a $500 scholarship to one young woman who presented the Be Your Best Self program during National Be Your Best Self Week. The competition for the Distinguished Outreach Award is open to any young woman who has participated in a Distinguished Young Women program at the local, at-large or state level (excludes state winners), who participates in National Be Your Best Self Week, and who will graduate from high school in 2012. We will announce the winner of the $500 Distinguished Outreach Award at National Finals on June 28, 2012 in Mobile, AL. Watch your email in the coming weeks for further information on the Distinguished Outreach Award and National Be Your Best Self Week.
