7th on the Hill & Rock the Runway draw big crowds and big dollars for Distinguished Young Women

7th on the Hill benefiting Distinguished Young Women

After many months of hard work and planning, 7th on the Hill & Rock the Runway wrapped up last night after a successful and entertaining day of fashion, friends and shopping. The 3rd annual fashion extravaganza drew record crowds to the University of South Alabama Mitchell Center, a new venue for this year's event.

A special thank you goes to Joy Grodnick, Distinguished Young Women Board Member and 7th on the Hill Chairperson, and also to Leigh Faircloth, chairperson for Rock the Runway. 7th on the Hill and Rock the Runway  were possible onlBacot Logoy because of tIP Logoheir dedicated effort and leadership. Hayley Hill, Mobile's own fashion maven, did an excellent job of producing and directing both shows. Also, thank you to IP Casino Resort & Spa and the Bacot/McCarty Foundation for providing a $50,000 sponsorship toward the  event.

Be on the lookout for a full recap of 7th on the Hill & Rock the Runway in the April newsletter.

The recently released compilation of essays provides an inspiring take on success from the viewpoint of past Junior Miss and Distinguished Young Women participants

Full Bloom

"What is success? And how do I cultivate it?" are two questions asked by nearly every young woman today. In this timely collection of essays, 27 highly accomplished women, from doctors to business owners to stay-at-home moms, speak candidly about success and how to get there.

All past participants of Distinguished Young Women, formerly America's Junior Miss, these amazing women offer a variety of perspectives on what success means and how they have achieved it. They have dreamed big, failed often, and continually learned from their experiences every  step of the way.

So whether you need a pep talk, some perspective about living a happy life, or savvy practical advice on how to get good grades, this book has something for you.

Available directly from the publisher until July, the proceeds from the sale of Full Bloom will go directly to benefit Distinguished Young Women programs at all levels. With graduation right around the corner, make sure to stock up on this must-have gift for all of the young women in your life.

The group has grown over the past three years and currently holds 26 members on its roster. A Message from the Executive Director
Becky Jo Peterson, ED
Becky Jo Peterson, Executive Director

Spring is here!  The azaleas are blooming, the air is warm and soft, and work on national finals is underway.  It's my favorite time of year! It was my pleasure to travel to Utah's state program earlier this month.  Julie Harris and Kelli Rhodes do a wonderful job and the participants had a great experience.  Our national board is working on our next strategic plan, incorporating all the information we learned from the rebranding process, and focusing on how we can make all of our state programs stronger.  We have a renewed effort to find and engage our alumnae, and we are almost ready to launch the new web site.  Thank you to all the state chairpersons and their committees who have already completed their state programs and best of luck to the few we have left.  We are looking forward to meeting all 50 of the national finalists on June 12 in Mobile!
