National Finals Awards Top Last Year The Class of 2010 earned more than $135,000 in cash scholarships.  The 53rd National Finals was exciting this year as the Board of Directors announced a new name for our program, the Alumnae Council hosted its first Mobile Reunion, and fifty of the nation's best and brightest young women competed for more than $135,000 in cash scholarships and college scholarships to more than 200 colleges and universities. Madison Leonard of Idaho became our first Distinguished Young Woman of America, winning $41,000 in cash scholarships. Meredith Gaufin of Utah was first runner up, winning $25,000 in cash scholarships and Anna Bryce Flowe of South Carolina was second runner up winning $15,000 in cash scholarships. Other finalists were (pictured left to right) Natali Gavanarova of Georgia, Kristi Snyder of Maryland, Ashley Gochocco of Pennslyvania, Mattie Bergeson of Washington, Paige Wagner of California, Kristen Mosley of Alabama and Meagan Fuller of Massachusetts. Madison Leonard
Distinguished Young Woman of America 2010  Madison Leonard of Idaho is the 53rd young woman to win the program's overall award, but she's the first to win the program's new name. In addition to Madison's down-to-earth personality and ability to articulate her thoughts, her vocal rendition ofthe jazzy number, The Nearness of You, while accompanying herself on the piano, impressed both the audience and the judges Madison graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School where she was salutatorian, participated in musical theater and was a member of the varsity tennis team. Through the local, state and national programs, Madison won more than $50,000 and is the first to win the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America. Madison is the program's first-ever winner from Idaho. She plans to attend Pepperdine University in the fall to study music performance and journalism. |
