A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE...
We've spent the last year telling you about some exciting things happening at AJM. As you know, the Board of Directors hired Marshall Strategy to evaluate our organizations brand and tell us how to better position ourselves for a long successful future. We've since been working through numerous processes to ensure that we are on the right path and taking the best steps to implement the recommendations from Marshall Strategy. As the details are finalized and decisions are made we will be providing information to our AJM Family. On June 14th, AJM intends to notifying State and Local Chairmpersons of what to expect from the new and improved AJM brand. BRANDING 101 Q: What does "Brand" mean? A: Your brand is your promise to your customers/clients about the COMPLETE experience they will have when they engage with you. Your brand is an internal statement of who you are, how you're different, and why you're special. You use that statement to form the basis for ALL your marketing and communications. Q: Why is AJM undergoing the re-branding process? A: When the program was about to close in 2005, people questioned whether America's Junior Miss was necessary in today's society. The grass roots volunteers and the AJM Board believe AJM is necessary for today's young women and agreed to continue AJM. Since 2005, we have been forced to reevaluate what AJM is, what we do, and why we are important. In short, we have been addressing the "branding" of America's Junior Miss. To hone in on the underlying problem or perception, we researched why potential national sponsors have refused to donate, why some colleges won't give us scholarships, and why we are missing some of the brightest contestants in the country. The problem is deeper than the name; it's the whole perception of what AJM is to the PUBLIC. Q: What are the goals of AJM's re-branding process? A: Increase funding from national and corporate funding sources; increase the participation of prestigious colleges and universities; increase the diversity of our participants; and increase the number of participants. Many of you told us that you'd like to see more energy put into spreading the word about AJM. AJM hired Tucker & Associates, a public relations firm from Dallas, TX, to be our public relations/marketing partner and help us share our new story with the world. Lori Tucker and her team are excited about working with AJM and we are thrilled to welcome them to our family. As the Chairperson of your program it is important that you relay and discuss this information with your volunteers in your area.

BE YOUR BEST SELF WEEK
AJM celebrated National BYBS Week April 12 - April 16, 2010
The BYBS program is an exciting and rewarding way for Junior Misses to help their communities. Together, the Junior Misses across the nation can make a huge impact on youth by introducing and teaching the philosophy behind the BYBS program. In 2010 Local Junior Misses were encouraged to participate. Please remind Junior Misses that participated in National BYBS Week to submit the BYBS Week Presentation Evaluation Form. This will help measure the national impact of the project. The Be Your Best Self Program is an important aspect of AJM and it will continue to grow and change the lives of young people across the nation.
Be Healthy Be physically fit and drug free Be Involved Serve your community Be Studious Stay in school Be Ambitious Set and achieve goals Be Responsible Live by moral and ethical principles
"The BYBS program is one of kind: Junior Misses, being realistic and ideal role models for today's youth, helps to open the minds of children to what it means to be true to yourself. Never by afraid to show who you are, because there is only one you! BYBS really teaches that any act of selfless giving can turn out to be a two-fold blessing. It is an honor to share your gifts and talents with the world."
