| We're Breaking Radio Silence! |
|

What's with the radio silence at AJM?
We've spent the last year telling you about some exciting things happening at AJM. As you know, the Board of Directors hired Marshall Strategy to evaluate our organization's brand and tell us how to better position ourselves for a long and successful future. We've since been working through numerous processes to ensure that we are on the right path and taking the best steps to implement the recommendations from Marshall.
It might seem like nothing but "radio silence" from AJM, but we are holding to our commitment of providing information to our AJM family as we are able. Meanwhile, we do have exciting news to share! Many of you told us that you'd like to see more energy put into spreading the word about AJM. We heard you! AJM hired Tucker & Associates, a public relations firm from Dallas, Texas, to be our public relations/marketing partner and help us share our new story with the world. With clients like Liz Claiborne and A Pea in the Pod, (they also oversaw the public relations and marketing for the recent demolition of Texas Stadium) Lori Tucker and her team are excited about working with AJM and we are thrilled to welcome them to our family. We have all of our state Junior Misses, which you can find in this newsletter or at www.ajm.org/about/contestants. Our National Finals Committee is busy preparing for those 50 young women to arrive in Mobile on June 13 for what will be an historical National Finals celebration that you won't want to miss. We hope you'll make plans to join us this year, if not in person then by webcast at www.local15live.com. Be watching for more information on how you can take part.

AJM celebrated National Be Your Best Self Week on April 12-16 as Junior Misses from around the country visited Boys & Girls Clubs to share the message. Junior Misses taught thousands of young people the program's five principles: Be Healthy, Be Studious, Be Involved, Be Ambitious and Be Responsible.

Junior Misses from the Chicago area congregated at the Alumnae Reunion in Joliet hosted by Mohra Gavankar and Jillene Szostak. Reunions are open to any past participant of a Junior Miss program from any year or level. The Alumnae Council will host a reunion in Mobile this June and in California this August.

Paul Klotz moved to Mobile in 1976 with International Paper and through his membership in the Kiawanis Club of Mobile, purchased tickets to take his two daughters to the America's Junior Miss program. Right away he knew he wanted to be involved with such a worthwhile program. He joined the Board of Directors in 1977, making him one of the longest continuous board members. He has since been active, serving every office on the board and even volunteering once or twice as Ticket Chairman.
Paul is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Masters Degree in Chemistry and Biology. He is also the current president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association in Mobile. At Thompson Engineering he is the Manager of Business Development for Municipal services in Mississippi, Alabama and North West Florida and serves on the Thompson Engineering Foundation Board of Directors.
Paul and his wife, Elaine, have two daughters Cissy K. Bacon and Melinda K. Mercer, and three grandchildren. One of Paul's daughters was a participant in a local program in the mid eighties. His proudest moment with AJM was when he was elected Chairman of the Board and because of low funds, also served as the Director. With the help of others, Paul was able to assist AJM in returning NBC Television. |
