| AJM Expands Its Reach to Women |
AJM is joining with 30 other national organizations to form the Confidence Coalition, created by the Kappa Delta Sorority. Ten of these organizations, including AJM, formed an advisory team and they met in Memphis, Tennessee in February for the first strategic planning session. The goal of the coalition is to promote confidence among girls and women. All member organizations work to promote awareness around important issues related to girls and women: confidence, body image, media stereotypes, domestic and dating violence, bullying, peer pressure, alcohol abuse, and other risky behaviors. AJM has Jennifer Ratliff, a local chairperson in Kentucky and a Kappa Delta, to thank for AJM's involvement. This type of collaboration will increase AJM's reach to more girls and young women across the country. For more information, see www.confidencecoalition.com.

AJM's rebranding project continues as the Board is sifting through all the recommendations of the consulting company, working through the legal aspects of a possible new name, and looking for public relations support from several prospective companies. We are looking forward to selecting a public relations firm within the next few weeks who will assist us with designing a new website and telling our story to potential sponsors, participants and the public at large.
PLEASE SAY YES!
Former AJMs Lori Carbonneau and Jesika Henderson Harmon are working with our immediate past president, Dee Gambill, on a fundraising effort specifically for these public relations and marketing goals. Please respond with your donation when you hear from them. AJM needs everyone's help to make AJM stronger.

Michelle Participates in Senior Bowl |
Michelle Rodgers, AJM 2009, (pictured left with LaBarron McClendon, AJM board member and VP of Human Resources for Mobile Gas - A Sempra Company, one of AJM's national sponsors) joined a sold out crowd of cheering fans at the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl in Mobile on January 30 to see the nation's top college senior football players compete in a North vs. South battle. Michelle had the honor of participating in the pre-game activities and attending the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame Reception, during which Larry Johnson and Terrell Owens were both inducted into the Under Armour Senior Bowl Hall of Fame.
Michelle attended the Kentucky Junior Miss program in January to pass on her state title and was a special guest at Massachusetts Junior Miss program. She will return to Mobile again in June for the 53rd AJM National Finals, but has other appearances coming up before then, including the Illinois Junior Miss program, the AJM Alumnae Reunion in Chicago, and National Be Your Best Self Week visits to Boys & Girls Clubs in the Chicago area.

| Connect with an AJM Board Member |

Joy Mitchell Grodnick joined the AJM board of directors in 1999 and has since been responsible for helping AJM produce events (like the upcoming fashion shows), recruit sponsors and fundraise. Joy earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Texas where she met her husband, Jimmy. Together they have three daughters, Abby (27), Meryl (25) and Leah (23). She enjoys walking, spending time and traveling with her family, and watching Alabama football. Joy says that she is proud to be a part of AJM because she believes it is a program that truly empowers young women all across the country. "I'd like to think that as board members we contribute just a little to the success of so many young ladies even if we never have the opportunity to meet them all," she says. Joy is also touched by the thousands of volunteers who work together with a common goal of empowering young women. "In such hard economic times, it's encouraging to still see people being generous and sharing the Spirit of Junior Miss." Joy has served on the board of directors for various organizations including UMS-Wright Alumni Association, UMS-Wright Board of Trustees, American Cancer Society, Gulf Coast Exploreum, Mobile Ballet, and the Mobile AIDS Support Services. She currently serves on the Regions Bank Board of Directors, Drug Education Council Luncheon Committee and the Tulane University Parents Council. |
