AJM Brand Update
Becky Jo Peterson, ED
By now you have all heard a great deal about the strategic positioning project for America's Junior Miss.  Hundreds of volunteers and interested parties viewed and heard the Marshall Strategy presentation we provided through You Tube. We are grateful to the more than 100 people who gave us valuable feedback on the information contained in the presentation and the next steps for the organization.

There are so many people who are passionate about Junior Miss and who devote countless hours and resources to giving young women tremendous opportunities. We appear to have consensus around the "story" Marshall Strategy developed - that it is a true and compelling statement of the America's Junior Miss program:

America's Junior Miss is an empowerment program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience culminating in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments.
  • By encouraging continued education and providing college scholarships
  • By developing self-confidence and the abilities to interview effectively, to speak in public, to perform on stage and to build interpersonal relationships
  • By encouraging and showcasing excellence in academic achievement, physical fitness, on-stage performance skills, and the ability to think and communicate clearly
  • By creating opportunities to beneficially inspire the lives of others
We've forwarded all the feedback we received from our conference calls and the on-line presentation to Marshall Strategy and expect to have a final recommendation on the entire positioning for America's Junior Miss by December. The Board's Branding Committee will review and discuss the recommendations, including any new naming options in light of all the feedback we've received and make a recommendation to the Board's Executive Committee sometime in December.  Our goal is to have a solid recommendation on the total strategic positioning package for the America's Junior Miss program to the Board of Directors in January.  This timeframe allows us to do the rest of the work toward implementing any changes to launch at the national finals in June.

Thank you again for your support, your feedback, and for your love of the Junior Miss program.

Michelle Visits DC and Mobile

Michelle Rodgers, AJM 2009, visited Washington D.C. to promote AJM and share the Be Your Best Self progrm  before visiting Mobile to celebrate Veterans' Day.

tween summitMichelle was a VIP guest at the Tween Summit in Washington DC, an event in which hundreds of tween girls voiced their opinions on self esteem, body image, and  other important issues. Michelle, Alina Ostrow (Massachusett 2009)  and Alysa Murray (Delaware 2010) setup a booth with AJM information to share with the girls and walked to red carpet at the concert that evening.

Two weeks later, Michelle and Amy Goodman (AJM 1991) attended the National Young Women's Conference in Washington D.C. where Michelle  talked with high school girls about AJM and the scholarships available to them through particiation.
 Michelle with Gov Bob Riley
Michelle returned to Mobile in November to celebrate Veterans' Day with the Mobile Bay Veterans' Day Comission. She rode in a parade honoring the armed forces, met Alabama Govenor Bob Riley, attended the Elephant VIP Dinner, and spoke to elementary school children about the Be Your Best Self program..Perhaps the highlight of her trip was weathering Tropical Storm Ida that hit Mobile during Michelle's stay.

AJM Fundraisers a Hit

What a busy and exciting November it has been for development here at the AJM headquarters! We kicked off the month with our 2nd Annual Sunday Night Sensation dinner on November 8th at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. It was a spectacular evening of music, elegant cuisine and fine wine featuring Epicurean entrees, community celebrity servers, Junior Miss entertainers and a guest chef. All 154 guests were invited to request crazy, outlandish things of their servers, all for the good cause of raising money for AJM scholarships. Guests also had the opportunity to meet this year's AJM, Michelle Rodgers, who showcased her theatrical abilities with her rendition of Taylor the Latte Boy.  Everyone had a great time and we exceeded our monetary goal by 30 percent!

One week later, more than 50 ladies came out swinging at the 1st Annual Wintzell's AJM Tennis Classic.  The tournament was held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center and 39 local businesses sponsored the event. Carpe Diem and Fresh Market provided breakfast and Wintzell's provided lunch. Mobile City Council President Reggie Copeland, was the Honorary Chairman of the event and helped present awards to the winning teams. It was a huge success and we are already planning for next year.
