Characterization work has been completed for a new viral gene vector reference material. Using helper virus–free transient transfection, this AAV2–green fluorescent protein (AAV2-GFP) viral vector was derived from the vector plasmid pTR-UF-11. It is intended for use in validating internal reference materials and assays for viral gene products with the purpose of making data from different vectors more comparable.

Both the reference material and the plasmid will be available within a few weeks from ATCC for a nominal cost (product numbers VR-1616 and MBA-331 respectively). Each vial of the reference material contains 0.5 mL at a target dose of 1 × 10E11 vg.

With an NIH grant and donations from industry and numerous academic organizations, this material was produced and purified by a group led by Richard Snyder, PhD (rsnyder@cerhb.ufl.edu) at the Vector Core of the University of Florida’s Powell Gene Therapy Center.

All submissions must address a recent advancement or solidify a “best practice” for biologic product development or production. The material format can be streaming video, YouTube postings, automated PowerPoint presentations; as well as PDF, HTML, Word and Excel docs. Be sure to include complete contact information for the corresponding submitter, an introduction of no more than 75 words, and a list of key words.
