Doin' It With Distinctiveness
Showcasing what sets Rivermont apart

What is distinctive about College Counseling at Rivermont?  Perhaps the late night call to the College Counselor when a senior is stuck on an application.  Or the nomination-only scholarship the Counselor knows is just right for a particular senior.  Maybe the summer research program a student needs encouragement to tackle?

Grad Cap for HEADlines

The distinctiveness of Rivermont's College Counseling is in its personalization, ease of availability, and span over four years.  Counseling begins at the end of 8th grade and through Upper School students receive advice on schools, honors programs, summer programs, tests, scholarships, interview skills, and essays.  During junior year, students build on the resume started as a sophomore, create a spreadsheet of schools to explore, and begin writing college essay prompts.  By fall of senior year, all pieces are in place to polish and seniors begin the task of actual application with support at every step.  Students participate in workshops on the FAFSA, Common Application, and essays, as well as mock interviews and college rep visits.  Parents are kept up to date, even dropping in for one-on-one visits with the College Counselor.

"I love when seniors ask me, Are you happy with the school I chose? - I love that they care so much."

Bonnie Campbell

Director of Student Services/College Counselor
