Doin' It With Distinctiveness
Showcasing what sets Rivermont apart
Foreign language study begins early at Rivermont, in part to help students understand their own developing native language, as well as to gain appreciation for diverse cultures. Kindergarten and 1st grade begin with Spanish, moving into French in 2nd-3rd. Once they reach 4th-5th, students select a focus of French or Spanish. Middle School students add Latin and once students reach Upper School, a variety of languages are available, including Chinese - which has grown in popularity here at Rivermont! Though not part of the formal curriculum, Sra. Fee makes arrangements to visit Early School, as well - just last week, she taught PreSchool and Junior Kindergarten to count to 10 in Spanish.
"I love it when my young students go home and teach their parents what they are learning in French and Spanish - a song, a greeting - parents often tell me "My child knows more than me!" Rivermont offers world languages to our students of all ages, which prepares and empowers them to engage in our multicultural society." - Dana Fee, Foreign Language Faculty
