Kudos to 6th Grade Math Bee!

Way to Go! The Rivermont 6th Grade Math Bee team placed fifth in the regional competition and will compete at the state level in late April.  Congratulations to team members:  Kenton Fee, Naina Ninan, Collin Smith, Sophia Xiao and alternate Perapa  Chotiprasidhi.  Special thanks to volunteer coach Chae Hee Porubcin.

Apologies, last week we omitted a name from the list of students who participated in this year's St. Judes Math A Thon.  Hats off to all of the LS fundraiers who together raised $1,615.00 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

2012 My Favorite Teacher Contest

Deadline for entries is Wednesday, March 28 at 5 PM.

Contest is open to all K-12 students and active teachers within the WQAD News 8 viewing area.

Each entrant must submit an essay of approximately 200 words or less explaining who his/her favorite teacher is/was and why that particular educator is so outstanding.

Each entry must also include:
   entrant's name, grade, address and phone number
   nominated teacher's full name and current school
   school address
   grade he/she teaches

Entry must be emailed or delivered by 5:00 PM, Wednesday, March 28, 2012.

Congratulations Rivermont Regional History Day Participants! 

 

On March 5th, 18 Rivermont students competed in the Regional History Day competition at St. Ambrose University. Every group made it to a "finals" judging and we are excited to announce that 6 of the teams will be advancing to the state competition in Des Moines. Three groups also received a special Science award for their research in a scientific field.

This is the first year that Rivermont has had 6th and 7th graders compete in the state competition.

Check out Augustana College's awesome summer offerings. The Summer Academy programs range from "The Amazing Brain: a Neuroscience Experience" and "Cooking as Chemistry" to "A Return to Hogwarts", "Dance: Music Made Visible".

 

The 16 courses range in price from $150 to $750 and  last from one to five days, with no grades or tests. A special grant is available to students from Rock Island.  Students who attend at least one Summer Academy course at Augustana and then apply and are accepted to study as an undergraduate will receive a $500 scholarship.
