2011 Women of Innovation
On November 17, the Technology Association of Iowa will present the fourth annual Iowa Women of Innovation event in West Des Moines. This awards presentation celebrates female leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math. Nominations were submitted from communities across the state and finalists represent a range of backgrounds: teachers, researchers, technologists, and CEOs, among other titles. Finalists also include high school, undergraduate, and graduate students who have demonstrated extraordinary achievements in technology. Rivermont seniors Meghana Pagadala and Pavane Gorrepati are finalists in the Youth Innovation & Leadership category.
"This year's winners will be chosen from among an elite group of extraordinary women who are making great strides in science and technology. These women are advancing Iowa's reputation in the world as a place where innovation is fostered and women's contributions matter."

Alumni News
English faculty member Gwen Livingstone Pokora was fortunate enough to receive an update this week from Meghan Showers, Class of 2007. Meghan is teaching English at Central China Normal University (also known as Huazhong University) in Wuhan, China. She has been teaching English for about 3 months to over 130 college students.
Meghan reports she receives quite a bit of attention being a foreigner in Wuhan, where it is not uncommon for locals to pull out a camera phone and snap a quick photo of her while she's grocery shopping. Meghan says her experience has been great - though she is looking forward to a visit home after Christmas!

Red Wheel Fundraiser Begins Today!
Rivermont is again selling delicious Red Wheel products! Students should be bringing home packets of information today. Additional packets are available at either front desk on campus. The sale will run today through Monday, 11/21. Profits will fund educational field trips at Rivermont!
Red Wheel products include a variety of pies, cheesecakes, cookie dough, chocolates, cheese spreads, pizzas, and more! Items will be delivered to Rivermont for pick up on Thursday, 12/8 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Please note that because these are frozen food items, it is very important that you pick them up. You are responsible for picking up all items you sold and delivering them to your customers.
For every 25 items sold, the seller may select any product on the frozen food order form as a prize! Additionally, for every 25 items sold, Parents' Council will award a $25 gift card to the school store!

Make Your Yearbook Extra Memorable!
The Rivermont Collegiate Yearbook, in association with Jostens, is offering the opportunity for parents and family members to place special messages to their children upon completion of the school year. There is no word limit - you are encouraged to make the yearbook extra memorable for your student! In addition, advertisements may be placed in the yearbook. Special messages and advertisements not only enhance the yearbook for your child, but also support the Rivermont Collegiate Yearbook financially!
This year, we are also offering the opportunity for students to customize their yearbook with up to two lines of text and icons. Please return order forms for messages, advertisements, and personalization to Mr. Douglas prior to November 30. Click below to link to examples and order forms.
