As of October 13, we have raised 2,600 pounds of food!  This is not including the money we have collected that will be used to purchase food at the end of the drive - the dodgeball tournament this week raised $70, along with cans!  Kudos to Darsani Reddy from Upper School, Manasa Pagadala from Middle School, and the 1st Grade Class, who brought in the most cans last week!

Events Coming Up:

Volleyball Tournament

Mini Period (1:00-1:50 p.m.) - Wednesday, 10/26

Open to Grades 6-12

Student-formed teams take on the Varsity Volleyball team!

Cost is $12 or 12 cans per team (teams of 6) or $1 or 1 can to watch - extra serves will be sold for $1 or 1 can each.

 Pumpkin Carving Contest

Wednesday, 10/26 - Monday, 10/31

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to bring in a creatively carved pumpkin to compete for top prize of a trophy and candy!  Cost to enter is $10 or 10 cans.  Pumpkins will be on display in the Mansion.  Mrs. Hampton and Mrs. Field will be judging!

Student Hunger Drive

Half-Way Facebook Contest

We are at the half-way point of the drive and to keep the excitement from the Kick-Off Party rolling,  the 2011 Student Hunger Drive is holding a contest!  Starting today (Friday), you are encouraged to visit the Student Hunger Drive Facebook page and vote for your FAVORITE 2011 skit.  Please LIKE Rivermont's skit video and encourage your friends and family to do the same!

The school with the most "likes" will win a $500 cash award from the Student Hunger Drive!   This award may be used as "seed" money for next year's drive, a school project, or as a donation to another not-for-profit organization.  All skits performed at the Kick-Off Party have been posted to the Student Hunger Drive Facebook page.

The contest will run Friday, October 21st through Friday, October 28th.  The winner will be announced at the 2011 Student Hunger Drive Finale Rally on November 10th.

What are you waiting for?  Go vote NOW!

Rivermont Community Garden
The National Junior Honor Society is preparing land on the lower campus for a Rivermont Community Garden!  The garden is located at the east end past the lower parking lot.  Due to clean up efforts on Campus Beautification Day, NJHS has more land than anticipated!  NJHS is the sponsor and overseer of this garden, but the garden itself is a Rivermont garden!  Classes and/or groups are invited to use a section of land to plant their own produce.
 Vegetable Garden
Each class or group will be responsible for planting, upkeeping, and harvesting their produce (NJHS members will help if needed).  The produce will be donated to Cafe on Vine, Churches United, and other non-profit organizations.

If your class or school group would like a section of land, complete the form (link below) and return to Leigh Ann Schroeder.  Please indicate what types of plants you would like to plant.  NJHS will have greenhouse access over the winter to begin plants by seed.  Let Leigh Ann know if you would like starter plants or if you are planning to do that yourself.  It is preferred that you supply your own seeds, but NJHS can help with that if needed.  NJHS will be planning the garden based on this form/survey.  There is enough land that everyone who wishes to participate will be able to!

Questions?  Contact Leigh Ann Schroeder, 5th Grade Teacher and NJHS Advisor, at (563) 359-1366 ext. 343 or schroeder@rvmt.org.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Don't forget to sign up for a time slot to visit with the teachers you would like to see for parent-teacher conferences!  An appointment book is located at the front desk in Becherer Hall, organized alphabetically by teacher last name.  Please sign up for conferences before Thursday, October 27.
