Are you counting the days?

Dear Rivermont Community,

Three weeks remain in our 127th year and the pace is quickening.  Keep your calendar updated because this is a busy place!

Although past, this year's auction was a marvelous success.  The numbers are not all in but I dare say The Chronicles of Rivermont will be one for the books.  Special thanks again to Cristy Tackett-Hunt and her many generous volunteers for creating a magical evening for Rivermont.

Yesterday evening, we were treated to an excellent program put on by our band, strings, and choir students.  Under the direction of Phyllis Miller, Virginia Ewoldt, and Sally Schulz, our musicians showed their skill and growth in musicianship but most especially, showed us the joy and excitement of a job well done!

Today is the final class day for our seniors before they set off to their Senior Projects.  Their final requirement before graduation will be a presentation of their project before the faculty.  Today, however, will end with the Middle & Upper Schools Imp-Tiger competition and the distribution of this year's edition of The Wheel.  Did you know that the School's yearbook has been called The Wheel since the beginning days?  Generations of students have cherished this valuable memory.

Sunday, May 15th, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. we will honor Marsha Field and Gwen Livingstone Pokora for 25 years of service to our School.  Their talents have enriched us and maintained the essence of Rivermont.  We are fortunate to have celebrated several 25th anniversaries and I am proud to congratulate and thank Mrs. Field and Mrs. Pokora for their contributions to the Rivermont Experience.  Join us for this celebration in the Mansion!

Monday, May 16th, we will honor our Middle School Track team and Friday, May 20th a Trivia Night will be hosted to support our students representing Rivermont at the National History Day Competition in Washington, DC.  This is the second year we have been represented and our first year presenting a research paper in addition to our always blockbuster historical performances.

Monday, May 23rd, the halls will be alive with music as we host our annual Solo & Ensemble Music Festival.  Students will be judged using competition rubrics and have the opportunity to listen to a professional group perform.  This is an important culmination of our musical performance program.

Upper School students will sit for final exams between May 26th and 31st.

And a big thank you to our faculty and staff volunteers and their family members!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Congratulations, Math Bee Team!

The Rivermont Math Bee Team, consisting of sixth grade students Emilia Porubcin, Shivani Ganesh, Ben Nordick, and Manasa Pagadala, placed 2nd in state at the Mississippi Bend AEA 33rd Annual Regional Math Bee!  The team missed 1st place by only 4 points!  Also, the team placed 1st in the team round, with a score of 33 out of 36, competing against 26 other schools!

In addition, Emilia Porubcin placed 2nd and Ben Nordick tied for 5th as individuals.  The Math Bee Team did, on average, over 2,300 math problems EACH in preparation for the competition!

First Aid at Rivermont!

When you get home from school, you find your parent lying on the living room floor...

Your best friend fell and an arm is bleeding and looks funny...

You are walking down the street and see a woman lying on the sidewalk...

What do you do???

Rivermont Upper School students can answer these questions!  Recently, all Upper School students underwent First Aid training and received their Red Cross First Aid certification.  This certification is good for 2 years.  Kudos to Upper School!
