Happy Spring!

Dear Rivermont Community,

It is easy to take the things and people around us for granted.  I was reminded of this lately as I was giving tours of the Bettendorf Mansion to groups of students from Bettendorf schools.  To see their wide eyes as they enter from the glass portico reminded me how special this place really is.  Soon after entering several of the students usually would ask, "This is a school?"  "Cool!"  Yeah, it is cool!  We get to work and learn in beautiful buildings that are both historical and modern.  We get the best of both worlds.  The Mansion has interesting details to enjoy in every corner and commanding views of the Mississippi.  Becherer Hall has spacious common areas and well equipped classrooms.  Visitors are often amazed as to how large our buildings are once they begin to walk around.

 Red Tulips on Campus

Spring is a special season on campus as flowering trees planted by the Bettendorf family and hundreds of daffodils and tulips planted by Rivermont students, teachers, and parents come into full bloom.  Take the time to admire the beauty of our campus at this time of year.  I especially enjoy the turn on Sunset Drive with the wooded area dotted with daffodils.  The ravine along the exit road also holds many horticultural surprises as plants are able to bloom as we clear away the brush.

Flowers on Campus - Driveway View

Our Rivermont community is a treasure.  Our shared values and goals bind us, while our individuality brightens and enlivens our experience.  So take the time to enjoy what is Rivermont - the buildings, the grounds, and most especially the people.

Happy Spring,

Rick St. Laurent

Headmaster

By the way, the longest of the 3 green slides of our new Imp-Tiger playground is really, really fast.  Trust me!

Thank You!

Lower School Student Council would like to thank everyone who participated in the Extra Recess event on April 13th to raise funds for Japan.  The weather was perfect and students enjoyed using special recess games like parachute and giant-sized soccer ball!  Many students emptied their piggy banks and families donated extra to help with relief efforts in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami.

We are proud to report that the Rivermont community donated $75.42.  Lower School Student Council, however, is doubling the amount and rounding the total to $150.00!
