Re-Enrollment

Dear Rivermont Community,

Re-enrollment season is upon us!  Although we still have a quarter of the school year left, plans are well underway for the 2011-12 academic year.  The Class of 2012 will be our 125th graduating class - imagine that!  We continue to expand integration of technology into curriculum with additional Promethean boards and touch screen notebook/projector systems, as well as exploration of online courses in Upper School.  These opportunities connect our students with students from across the country.  eBooks will make an appearance in some of our classrooms as students continue to weave technology into their daily lives.  Plans are also in the works to make Wi-Fi available throughout campus.  With all this technology, we also plan to expand our outdoor learning and leadership opportunities to help ground our students.  Balance is the goal.

Technology for HEADlines

Re-enrollment agreements for 2011-12 were mailed home this week.  If you have not received yours, please contact Marsha Field in the Business Office (field@rvmt.org or (563) 359-1366 ext. 309).  The Board of Trustees and the Administration take the stewardship of the School's resources seriously and seek to find the appropriate balance between holding down costs while also developing an extraordinary program.  We are committed to supporting excellent faculty and providing them with the necessary resources to help each Rivermont student develop his or her intellect, character, and creativity.  We appreciate the sacrifices and choices families make to provide the Rivermont Experience for their children.  Our need-based financial aid, sibling discounts, reciprocal discounts, and newly established merit scholarships help keep the Rivermont Experience affordable and within reach for many students in the Quad Cities.

From Early School through Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, Rivermont students are fully prepared to meet the academic and life challenges awaiting them at the next level.  Our graduates even see a financial return on their family's investment.  Not only are 100% of our graduates accepted to four-year colleges and universities, but over 90% earn renewable merit scholarships!

Grads with Bonnie

Returning your signed re-enrollment contract with a $250 deposit by 4:00 PM Friday, March 25 will reserve a place for your child for 2011-12.  Some classes will reach maximum enrollment and wait pools may be necessary.  New student enrollment contracts will be mailed on the afternoon of March 25 to complete class enrollment.  As a thank you for your re-enrollment by March 25, you will receive a 50% discount on your child's comprehensive fee.  The Business Office is open until 4:00 PM each day to accept your re-enrollment contract.  If unfortunately you have chosen not to re-enroll your child, we would appreciate you contacting Cindy Murray in our Admission Office (murray@rvmt.org) so we know not to hold a spot.

The faculty and I appreciate the trust you have placed in us and look forward to being part of your child's future!

Financial Aid - Tuition Assistance

It is the School's continuing goal that economic standing not be a factor in qualified students attending Rivermont.  Families are encouraged to apply for tuition assistance when finances become a decision-maker in attendance.  Rivermont follows guidelines for tuition assistance set forth by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).  Tuition assistance is made on the basis of need as determined by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS).  In addition, Rivermont asks that families complete a budget worksheet and submit current income tax information.

There are several important deadlines for consideration for financial aid:

1) Complete the Intent to Re-enroll & Apply for Tuition Assistance form and return it to the Business Office by Friday, February 25th, 2011.

2) Complete the PFS online - sss.nais.org - by March 11.

3) Submit a hard copy of the PFS online to the Business Office by March 11.

4) Complete the Monthly Expense Budget Worksheet and return to the Business Office by March 11.  This form is available at www.rvmt.org.

5) Make a copy of final 2010 income tax returns, schedules, and W-2s or Schedule C (if self-employed) and submit to the Business Office no later than April 20.

Although the first deadline has passed, families may still be considered by completing items 1-4 by March 11.

Forms can be found on the school website and the SSS logo below will link you to the School & Student Services site.

Questions can be directed to Business Manager Jen Nicol at nicol@rvmt.org.

"Fat Tuesday" - Pancake Tuesday!

March 8th

Pancake Tuesday is a long standing tradition at Rivermont in honor of "Fat Tuesday" and Mardi Gras, which mark the end of a season of excess before the lean days of Lent.  For many years, a pancake luncheon was served on Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) to students and staff at St. Katharine's / St. Katharine's-St. Mark's.  On March 8th, Parents' Council volunteers will be cooking and serving the traditional pancake lunch!  Pancakes and sausages will be the featured entree!  As always, sack lunches are also okay.

Join us for Middle School Information Night

Tuesday, March 15th

6:00-7:30 p.m.

(Please note: MS Info Night occurs on the same day as "Sneak-A-Peek Day" - a special day during which current 5th graders visit 6th grade classes during the school day to get a preview of life in Middle School!  Current 8th graders will also spend time in Upper School classes on this day to experience life in the Upper School!  A detailed schedule of the school day will be announced for students.)

 MS Info Night Fish Image

The Middle School years (6th-8th), more than any other stage of life, are filled with dramatic life experiences, intellectual growth, and emotional expansion.  Rivermont recognizes the needs of Middle School students are different than those of other students.

Current fifth grade students and their families are invited to join us to discuss academic expectations and curriculum, explore extra-curricular activities and athletics, and discover organizational and study skills needed to be successful.  Parents and students will also have the opportunity to meet Middle School faculty and tour Middle School classrooms and common areas.

This event is open to the public - if you have friends, neighbors, colleagues, etc. who might be interested in Middle School at Rivermont, please encourage them to join us!

A light supper will be served.

The evening will begin in the Mansion Reading Room.

The iPads are Coming!

Sync up and prepare for iRivermont!

Rivermont is excited to announce that the Class of 2015 will be participating in a technology pilot program!  Each rising freshman at Rivermont for the 2011-12 academic year will be issued an Apple iPad2!  In addition, 3 lucky students from grades 10-12 will win an iPad2 in a drawing to be held in April.

The Apple iPad is a revolutionary device that keeps the classroom at students' fingertips.  The freshman class at Rivermont will be able to download textbooks to their iPads and use the expansive onscreen keyboard to collect their thoughts, easily jotting down notes in class.  A vivid, high-resolution screen will allow students to create stunning presentations, while easy-to-use formatting and layout tools will result in brilliant documents.  The Rivermont freshman class will be expected to be beautifully organized, with an interactive calendar to track assignments, deadlines, and practices.  With more than 350,000 apps available on the App Store, students will have access to thousands of educational apps - from iThesaurus to interactive periodic tables.

In the Rivermont style of infusing traditional curriculum with innovative ideas and technology, it is our hope that the entire Rivermont Middle and Upper School (grades 6-12) will move into iPads in the near future.  As schools across the country are getting their feet wet implementing the iPad, the technology is being touted as magical - poised to change the learning landscape as we know it.  Rivermont Collegiate is thrilled to be a leader in this educational technology, while also lightening backpacks and reducing paper consumption!

There's an app for that!
