Holiday Wishes

Dear Rivermont Community, winter mansion

Peace is a universal wish for all humankind.  This holiday season focuses our attention on the importance and value of peace and respect for all.  On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration I wish you all peace as we end 2010 and prepare to begin a new year.  May 2011 bring happiness, prosperity, health and most especially as our Choirs sang, "Dona nobis pacem."

The Rivermont Collegiate cheerleading team participated in a Middle School cheer competition at Silvis Junior High on December 6. The team was divided into two competition teams. Each team executed five cheers and was evaluated for enthusiasm, technique, rhythm and timing, loudness, and creativity. Our older girls placed fourth overall, while our 5th and 6th grade squad placed second in the newly created junior division. Congratulations to the Rivermont Cheerleaders and their coach Heather Manuel. You are: BOOM! Dynamite!

Please accept our Deepest Thank-You!  The boots came just in time for our 1st snowfall and the happiness/excitement in the children who received them was priceless.  Please let your generous families know how deeply we appreciate their kindness!

The children are extremely excited and want to wear their boots all day!  The generosity of families at Rivermont has meant a lot to our families who are financially struggling here!  Thank you all so very much!!
Blue Grass Elementary

I just wanted to thank you so much for the shoes for our Buchanan students!  I wish you were here to see their faces!  They really appreciate them!  So many of them were wearing shoes that were two sizes to small for them.  They were so happy to receive them!  The students are making cards and I will be sending them to the school.  I just wanted to make sure I got this off to you right away letting you know what a difference you made in the lives of our students.

BizTown

The big day arriv ed!  On Wednesday, December 15th, the 4th-5th graders attended JA BizTown.  Students dressed in business attire to look and feel like "real" employers/employeeja cafes.  All of our class work preparation helped with the success of our 5 businesses:  Professional Office, Bank, Café, Tech Shop, and Delivery Center.  No real money was allowed, only BizTown Bucks and personal checking accouja banknts for each student. Each of our businesses paid off their loan by selling goods or providing services.  Many lifelong learning skills that the students acquired included time management, conflict resolution, cooperation, public speaking, and personal financingja suits. The students would like to send a special thank you to our parent and JA volunteers: Dr. Aric Eckhardt, Dr. Heidi Storl, Mrs. Courtney Kay-Decker, Mrs. Delia Meier, Ms. Karrie Holland, Ms. Melissa Freidhof-Rogers, Mr. Matt Schroeder, Mrs. Brenda Didelot, and Mr. Tom Melchert.

"Bed, Bath, and Beyond for Bethany" A Success!

On Friday, December 10th, Ben Cleaveland, Program Supervisor for THY (Transitional Housing for Homeless Youth) visited Rivermont to speak with students in grades 5-12 about the program.

Ben Cleaveland

This special presentation was the culmination of the NJHS fundraiser, "Bed, Bath, and Beyond for Bethany", which raised 5 large boxes of supplies for youth apartments, as well as $120.  Following the presentation, NJHS members loaded the donation boxes.

The THY Program is part of Bethany for Children and Families, a not-for-profit agency that provides numerous services to children and families in western Illinois and eastern Iowa.  The THY Program provides comprehensive services to homeless youth, including housing, educational counseling, and vocational training.

The overall value of the donation was about $1,000!
A big round of applause to NJHS and all members of the Rivermont community who helped make our contribution possible!
