EXTRAORDINARY

Dear Rivermont Community, AF cover 2010

You should have received the Annual Report for 2009-10 by now.  This report not only highlights the generosity of our community but also the intellect, character, and creativity of our students.  Reading through the report it's obvious that the unique qualities of Rivermont are many and varied.  We truly are a community of participants, not spectators.  Rivermont makes extraordinary things happen!

I hope that you have also received our appeal for the 2010-11 Annual Fund.  This yearly appeal provides an opportunity for everyone in our community to contribute to the immediate needs of the School.  There is no magic donation amount. Every investment in Rivermont is welcome.  Annual Fund provides a way for everyone in our community to participate!  YOUR participation is essential!  Tuition and fees alone do not cover the annual cost of a Rivermont education.  The Annual Fund seeks to fill the gap between tuition and fees collected and the actual expenses of the Rivermont Experience.  Your gift counts!

I want to be extraordinary!  A bold statement but at Rivermont not unexpected!  Each person in his or her own way goes beyond the usual.  Some go beyond the usual in knowledge, others in physical prowess, while others do so in artistic expression.   Some go beyond in their communities, their faith, or their families.

Rivermont strives to guide its students on a path to find their extraordinariness.  Caring teachers work with smaller classes to engage each student.  Committed staff keep the wheels of the school in motion efficiently.  Dedicated parents support and encourage not only their own children but all the children of Rivermont.  Proud alumni mentor upper classmen and keep memories alive.  This EXTRAORDINARY community, working together, develops the intellect, character, and creativity of each and every Rivermont student so that each may realize his potential, discover her passion, and be extraordinary!

Your support of the Annual Fund will help Rivermont students meet Presidents, work with the hungry, develop a business, and even save the planet.  An extraordinary statement?  True.  But would you expect anything less?

I am delighted to announce that 100% of the faculty and staff as well as 100% of our Board of Trustees have donated to this year's Annual Fund.  Their generosity and commitment are extraordinary!

Now it's up to you! Help us be extraordinary!

Thank you Rivermont! Just by eating pancakes and sausage (and with a little socializing along the way) you raised $407.30 which we are sending to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts for flood ravaged Pakistan.

Pavane Gorrepati '12

Ghouls. Ghosts. Goblins. Halloween is fast approaching, and it is time to pull out those costumes and hand out candy to all of those little goblins. The orange of the pumpkins and candy corn and the black of the cats and the night sky are the colors that fill Halloween. Why not, however, try to add some green to the bone-chilling holiday? Adding some green to the holiday would spice things up and save some money! Some easy green ideas for the season are quite simple and fun!

·

Make a Homemade Costume - Using your imagination is much more fun than going out and buying a regular costume. Find items in your house and improvise. Want to be a grape this Halloween? Just wear a green hat as the stem and attach a bunch of purple or green balloons all over your body.

Decorate Your Home With Nature - Pumpkins, squashes, flowers, hay bales, and candles from soy can all be found at your local farmer's market!

Save Money and Gas - Many parents follow their kids in the car as they go trick-or-treating. Instead of driving around, be part of the experience and join your child in the fun! Save your gasoline, money, and limit your emissions.

·Reuse, Reduce, Recycle - Reuse the decorations again next year. This way you reduce the amount of new decoration that you buy and you recycle the previous Halloween decorations!

With these fun ideas and tips, you can add some green to your Halloween!

JD logoCalling all High School Students

Once again a great computer program is being offered at John Deere called " IS Explorers that teaches QC area high school students about careers in computer technology." An overview meeting is on Tuesday October 26th for interested students and their parents to discuss what the program is about.  "We are seeking students that have shown deep interest in computers and have dedication and time to participate in meetings on Tuesday nights." This program is for both boys and girls.

IS Explorers is a co-ed program for young adults, offering high school students in the Quad Cities a real world, business view of computers and technology. The program consists of bi-weekly meetings presented by computer professionals who work in the Information Systems division of John Deere. Students are given presentations, take part in hands-on labs and have educational, computer oriented competitions.
