Bravo!
Dear
Rivermont Community, The Mansion was quiet as master tuner Walter Haedrich made
sure that the Bettendorf Baldwin Concert Grand Piano was ready for the concert.
Students crept past the Alumni Room so
as not to disturb the delicate touch Mr. Haedrich applied to our treasure. (He also tuned the grand for Mr. Bettendorf.) As soon as the Baldwin
was declared fit to play a flurry of activity began as chairs were set up, programs
printed, and a reception for our honored guests was prepared. This was big doings for the Mansion. Former residents were returning and the students
and staff were to be treated to a special performance. The Mansion was quiet as our special guests were introduced.
Sally Bettendorf Fuller and her sister
Jane Bettendorf Vieth, both alumnae of St. Katharine's School and both having called the
Mansion home, greeted everyone and introduced friend and international pianist Gustavo
Romero. Mr. Romero captivated his
audiences as he performed Rachmaninoff, Say, Chopin, and Granados. Music filled the Mansion as it must have when
our special guests' father William played in the Music Room. As Mr. Romero answered student questions after
his performances, he reminded them of how fortunate they were to learn in such
a grand building and that each had to find their own passion and live their
dreams - for him the piano but for others it may be sports, science, writing,
or art. Several of Sally and Jane's friends and other St. Kit's
alumnae joined us for this special event. What a special experience our students have
here at Rivermont. Our alumni support
and encourage the students and faculty to keep the spirit of our School alive
while sharing in that quest. Students
are able to meet a world class musician and sit beside him as his fingers dance
on the keyboard, and to learn in magnificent buildings, new and historic. Rivermont is a treasure and our students are
fortunate to share in the Rivermont Experience. I am confident that Mr. Romero's music will stay with us for
quite some time and will inspire us to find our passion and follow our dreams. Rick St. LaurentHeadmaster |

2010 Student Hunger Drive
Mr. Ri vermont Pageant
Thanks to our brave contestants for the coveted title of Mr. Rivermont, you were amazing! But there can only be one reigning Mr. Rivermont. Congratulations to seventh grader Harrison Qu, you are The Man!
2010 Student Hunger Drive Kick-Off Party
The field of competition was fierce and we gave it our all but our troupe from Rivermont came home with second place. Our athleticism was amazing and we were definitely a crowd pleaser. Wait until next year!
Last year, Rivermont collected 9,578 lbs of canned food. The value of this donation is over $14,367! Help us make this year's Student Hunger Drive an even greater success! Your generosity is deeply appreciated!
DROP OFF YOUR CANS IN BECHERER HALL OR THE MANSION.
Watch for other Student Hunger Drive events! We CAN stamp out hunger in the QC!

Campus Beautification
Friday, October 8 students and faculty will be working outside. We will be collecting twigs, branches, and apples, weeding flower beds, raking, and planting red tulips. Students should come to school dressed to work outside. Gloves would be most appreciated! Parents are always welcome to come and join the fun of caring for our beautiful, historic campus.
We are accepting any and all donations of RED tulip bulbs for planting on the campus. Bulbs may be left in the wheelbarrow in Central Hall.

Calling all High School Students
Once again a
great computer program is being offered at John Deere called " IS Explorers that
teaches QC area high school students about careers in computer technology." An
overview meeting is on Tuesday October 26th
for interested students and their parents to discuss what the program
is about. "We are seeking students that have shown deep interest in computers
and have dedication and time to participate in meetings on Tuesday nights." This
program is for both boys and girls.
IS
Explorers is a co-ed program for young
adults, offering high school students
in the Quad Cities a real world,
business view of computers and
technology. The program consists of
bi-weekly meetings presented by
computer professionals who work in
the Information Systems division of John
Deere. Students are given presentations, take
part in hands-on labs and
have educational, computer oriented competitions.

NJHS Service for 2010-11
Bethany for Homeless Children and Families Transitional
housing for homeless youth program (THY)
This program gives
homeless youth in the Quad Cities housing, food, and an opportunity to
work. These youth are usually ages
14-21. This program's goal is to educate
and transition these young men and women into independent living. This is a very hard job, however. There are about 850 homeless youth in Davenport and Rock
Island combined, and THY can't take care of them
all. They have a hard time taking care
of the ones they have now, which is very few. This year, NJHS will be focusing on this cause. NJHS plans to put donation boxes around the
school for supplies such as clothes and bath products. We will also have supplies lists posted
around the school listing recommended donations. NJHS also plans to host a Pajama Day for
Middle and Upper school, in class competitions for Lower School,
and other events to support our cause. October will be Rivermont's own "Bedrooms, Bathrooms, and Beyond
for Bethany Month". If you have any further
questions, please contact Lolly Telleen or Mrs. Schroeder. Please help us support the homeless youth of Iowa!
