Remember
Dear
Rivermont Community, On the eve of the 9th anniversary of what has
come to be known as 9/11 it is important for us to pause as a school community
and remember. Remember the ideals upon
which this country is founded. Remember
the beauty and strength of the tapestry of color, tradition, and diversity we
have woven. Remember that civilization
compels us to aspire to high ideals and not respond to our baser instincts. Remember that we are not only guided by the
rights we all enjoy but by the mandate to always do what is right! The tragedy of 9/11 showed us that we are strong, connected,
and civilized. In the wake of that
tragedy, many responded with their best selves. We witnessed countless examples of selflessness and interdependence in response
to some exceptionally selfish and cowardly acts. The more difficult the challenge and the circumstances the
more essential it is that we rely on our ideals and values and not slip into
fear, blame, and intolerance. Honest,
authentic dialogue in an atmosphere of mutual respect will help guide us
through the difficult questions. Books
are for reading, not for burning. Sacred
texts are for reverence, not desecration. These are ideals worth preserving and cherishing. Let us remember our most cherished and essential ideals and
preserve them, even when others do not. Rick St. LaurentHeadmaster |

From the Athletic Department
The PRIDEWith more games than ever this year, we will need to charge
a small admission fee at our home games to help cover the increased cost of
officials. Middle School admission
prices are set by our conference ($1 per student, $2 per adult, $5 per family). Rivermont students and children under 6 will
continue to be admitted free of charge. Varsity prices will be $2 per student, $4 per adult, and $10
per family. Rivermont students and
children under 6 are admitted free. To make your life easier, we are offering membership in our
newly formed booster club called "The PRIDE." Your membership earns you a season pass that will admit you
to all middle school and varsity home games for the entire school year. There are two types of memberships: Family
Membership $25 You
will receive passes for all members of your immediate family. Extended
Family Membership $50 You
will receive passes for Mom, Dad, Aunts, Uncles, grandparents, and siblings. **Rivermont Faculty
and Staff will receive a complimentary Family Membership. Memberships can be purchased at home games. Membership benefits of The PRIDE also include
the opportunity to purchase the same coaching shirts worn by our coaching staff
and the varsity team warm-ups. The primary goal of The PRIDE is to aid the Athletic
Director in the promotion of school spirit, the presentation of athletic
events, and to enhance the recognition of our coaches and student-athletes. I have asked a few parents to help as we start the booster
club. All parents are welcome to provide
their input and support. Thanks to the
following for their help: 5th

Olson-Brandelle North American Indian Art
CollectionDisplayed for the
first time as a whole, the 318-piece Olson-Brandelle North American Indian Art
Collection of Augustana College introduces Southwest Pueblo art at a level
rarely found in the Midwest. Kent Olson (Augustana '61) and his wife Elaine
donated the collection to Augustana in 2004, with subsequent additions. Included
are 36 photogravures by Edward Curtis from his volume The Hopi. Dating from
pre-1600 to the present, the collection documents continuing traditions and the
artistic recognition achieved by Native American potters during the 20th
century. The accompanying 336-page catalog, edited by art museum director Sherry
Maurer (Rivermont parent), has entries by major scholars, Augustana faculty and
administrators, as well as over 50 Augustana College student contributors. On
Wednesday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Larson Hall there will be a discussion
panel with five of the artists represented in the collection, and the following
morning at 10:30 a.m. these artists will be demonstrating their work in a folk
festival atmosphere. The morning finale will be a dance and drum demonstration
by the Brown Otter Singers Song and Dance Group, Meskwaki. Augustana College Art
Museum hours are noon to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, no admission
charge. For more information contact 309-794-7231 during weekday hours or
