RIVERMONT COLLEGIATE 1821 Sunset Drive Bettendorf, IA 52722
|
Dear Rivermont Community,
Rivermont has a strong commitment to its academic program and we are proud of our college acceptances, merit scholarships, stellar achievement scores and numerous examples of exemplary writing, research, and presentation. We are equally committed to our extra and co-curricular opportunities that enrich the Rivermont Experience and develop leadership, sportsmanship, integrity, and compassion.
This year's athletic program has grown in both offerings and in participation. This growth has enabled more students to have a team experience while also honing the skills and talents of our athletes. Rivermont has a cooperative agreement with Bettendorf High School that permits our students to participate in sports not offered at Rivermont. These students are able to participate in a rigorous college preparatory environment while also experiencing a full complement of interscholastic athletic programs.
Varsity
Sports Rivermont Juniors Jimmy
Weeks and Wesley Julien participated
with the Bettendorf High School Boys Track Team this spring as part of our

Team. The team has advanced to the 2010 Substate Tennis Meet that will be
played Saturday, May 22 in Iowa

beautiful weather for the track meet and lots of wonderful help. Middle
School Track Coach Carey Dewitt, along with the classroom teachers Rebecca. Ashby, Catherine Carr, and Leigh Ann Schroeder were instrumental in making the meet run
smoothly. Many thanks to the parents who were able to help with the
field events including: Jennifer Kearney,
James Zahara, Penny Hamby, Nihar Shah, Kevin Geedy, Connie Smith, and Poonputt
Chotiprasidhi. Special thanks to Athletic Director Ed Knupp and the coaching staff for leading a great season. This would not be possible without the support of parents who drove to contests and cheered in the stands and of course our student athletes who balanced the demands of their academics and of their sport.
You can see from this list that Rivermont continues to be a place where there are no spectators, only participants! And excellent participants they are!

National Honor Society
Eyeglass Drive
In honor of healthy vision month,
National Honor Society is having an eyeglass drive! NHS is collecting any
prescription reading glasses and sunglasses (plastic and/or metal frames) that
are in good condition. NHS will donate the eyeglasses through the Lions Recycle
for Sight Program, and the glasses will be distributed to people in need and
in developing countries, where they will have a strong impact. In just about
any dresser drawer, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being
used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life! Eyeglasses can be dropped off to Mrs. Marietta or Ms. Burrell at either
reception desk or delivered to an NHS member.

Class of 2010 - 123rd Commencement
The Day We Have All Been Working Toward
Friday, June 4, marks the culmination of the year. Seniors will gather with faculty, family and
other guests to present their Senior Projects and answer questions from the
audience. Seniors have been called upon
in a similar manner since the first graduating class in 1888. Senior Presentations will begin at 10:00 AM in
the auditorium. Guests are invited to join us. At 4:00 PM, to the
strains of Pomp and Circumstance, the senior class will walk out to the south
lawn of the Mansion for the 123rd Commencement Exercises. Two of our seniors will be recognized as members of the Heritage Club or "lifers" who have
attended our school since Kindergarten. Everyone is invited to participate in this special ceremony. Graduation is an important event and marks the culmination of the Rivermont Experience. We are proud of our graduates' accomplishments and wish them happiness and success as they begin the next phase of their academic lives and take on the responsibilities of adult participants in their communities. March forward like Lions!
