Dear Rivermont Community,

One of our proud accomplishments at Rivermont is the 100% acceptance of our senior class to 4-year colleges and universities.  Our college counseling begins in the freshman year, actually at the end of eighth grade, and continues through the senior year when applications are submitted.  In some cases, we continue with contacts and clarification to the college admission officers.  The time and care independent schools like Rivermont place on the college counseling is beyond compare.  Families would have to hire a private consultant to receive comparable guidance and support.

We are pleased to announce that the Class of 2010 has been accepted at the following colleges and universities and have earned $766,464 in merit scholarships.

Augustana College (IL)
Boston University (MA)
Bradley University (IL)
Case Western University (OH)

Today is the last regular class day for our seniors.  Beginning next week, each senior will be on their Senior Project.  This is an opportunity to become intensely involved in an activity or profession that is of particular interest to the senior. This experience provides our students with valuable insights into themselves as well as into the "real" world of business and service.  Each senior will then make a presentation to the faculty and assembled guests on Friday, June 4 at 10:00 AM.  This is their final requirement before receiving their diplomas at the 123rd Commencement Exercises that afternoon at 4:00 PM.  Everyone in the Rivermont community is invited to participate in these important Rivermont "rites of passage."

Rivermont Trivia Night
Send our students to Washington, DC

Rivermont is sending two teams to the National History Day competition in Washington D.C. in June. This is the first time since 2001 that Rivermont has represented the state of Iowa at this event. It is a great honor for the students, and the two groups that are going worked very hard to win both the Regional and State competitions. The History Day teams are holding a Trivia Night fundraiser to help with some of the costs of the trip.

Got the Write Stuff?   No?!

Parents' Council will once again be ordering the Write Stuff School Supply Kits this year.

Have your child's supplies waiting in his or her classroom on the first day of school.  How easy is that?

Supply kits will be available to purchase from May 10 through June 1.  You can order your kit from The Write Stuff website, and it will then be delivered to Rivermont.  The school has provided The Write Stuff student supply lists for each grade PS-8 so you can be sure you are getting everything your child will need.

You may choose to have your order shipped to Rivermont or directly to you at home.  Kits shipped to the school will be delivered to your child's classroom.  Shipping is $1 to school or regular UPS rates to your home.

National Honor Society
Eyeglass DriveNHS Logo

In honor of healthy vision month, National Honor Society is having an eyeglass drive!  NHS is collecting any prescription reading glasses and sunglasses (plastic and/or metal frames) that are in good condition.  NHS will donate the eyeglasses through the Lions Recycle for Sight Program, and the glasses will be distributed to people in need and in developing countries, where they will have a strong impact.  In just about any dresser drawer, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used.  That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life! Eyeglasses can be dropped off to either Mrs. Marietta or Ms. Burrell at either reception desk or delivered to an NHS member.
