Dear Rivermont Community,
Today, Rivermont students and faculty reached out to the Quad City community in our annual Day of Service. Although Rivermont participates in many service projects throughout the year our Annual Service Day combines the efforts of all our K-12 students to give back to the greater community on one day.
This year our Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third Grade students prepared May baskets and door decorations for the Kahl Home. Our Fourth and Fifth Grade students made cards and wrote letters to servicemen and women stationed overseas.
A panel of AmeriCorps volunteers and alumni discussed the
concept of service and lead break-out activities for our Middle School
students. After the morning session, the Middle School students and their teachers went to Jefferson, Mark Twain and Neil Armstrong Elementary Schools in Bettendorf to be reading buddies. After lunch they planned to participate in some clean-up projects at McManus, Veterans', and Edgewood Parks.
The Upper School students and faculty divided their time at Skip-A-Long Child Development Services, the Center for Active Seniors (CASI), and Central Community
Circle Food Pantry/Café on Vine.
Each project provided our students with the opportunity to learn more about the needs of our community while lending a helping hand and realizing that every act of kindness makes a difference.

KUDOS
Intellect - Character - Creativity
State History Day Congratulations to our 4 Upper School students who presented their projects at the state history day competition in Des Moines on April 26. The 4 competed against about 250 Iowa students in grades 9-12
in the senior division. The team of Christopher and Christine Mbakwe won first place in their category, earning perfect marks, while the team of Meghana Pagadala and Joann Weeks won second place. Meghana and Joann also received the Judges Choice award for their use of a Primary Source as Media. Both teams will go up against
about 2,500 of their peers from the United States, Guam, American
Samoa, Department of Defense schools in Europe and Shanghai, China,
in June at the University of Maryland in the National History Day competition. 24 students will represent Iowa at the University of Maryland with 4 of those coming from Rivermont.
Although Rivermont has often had students named as alternates to the national event, this is the first time since 2001 that our students will compete at the national level.
In addition, Rivermont was tied for second place in the overall school category. Rivermont was presented two books for our library.

National Honor Society
Eyeglass Drive
In honor of healthy vision month,
National Honor Society is having an eyeglass drive! We are collecting any
prescription reading glasses and sunglasses (plastic and/or metal frames) that
are in good condition. NHS will donate the eyeglasses through the Lions Recycle
for Sight Program, where the glasses will be distributed to people in need and
in developing countries, where they will have a strong impact. In just about
any dresser drawer, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being
used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life! Eyeglasses can be dropped off to either Mrs. Marietta or Ms. Burrell at either
reception desk, or delivered to an NHS member.
