Dear Rivermont Community,

On an August Monday twenty-two years ago Mrs. Margy Dobbelaere opened her classroom door to her first class of Rivermont second-graders and began to cajole them, discipline them, love them, and nurture them through a year of ups, downs and challenges. And I dare say that at the end of the year those second graders were the best prepared in the Quad Cities for what lie ahead of them in third grade! Hundreds of students and their parents (and probably a few headmasters!) have benefitted from Mrs. Dobbelaere's guidance. So it is with more than a little sadness that I announce Mrs. Dobbelaere has decided to retire! Her husband, Bill, retired two years ago and has been patiently waiting to go on vacation! I know that this was a difficult decision for Mrs. Dobbelaere and we wish her all the best. She leaves behind big shoes to fill as well as a lasting legacy.

Now begins the bittersweet task of finding a new second grade teacher. Bitter in that we will not see Mrs. Dobbelaere in her classroom early every morning and late every evening preparing for her inquisitive students. Sweet in that we will welcome a new member of our teaching community who will leave her or his imprint on future Rivermont second graders. We will strive to continue to bring the best and the brightest to teach the students of Rivermont.

We will of course take time to celebrate Mrs. Dobbelaere's twenty-two years and be sure to include you in our celebration.

Rick St. Laurent, Headmaster

One hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a better place because I was important in the life of a child.

Rare 1980 Cabriolet Cadillac Convertible!
Donor: Steve Pray

Rivermont Collegiate Auction 1995 - Tim Wilkinson, an Alcoa emissary donated a 1980 white Cadillac Cabriolet Convertibcadillacle to Rivermont for its annual fundraiser. With only 20,000 miles it was purchased by Tom Waterman for his dad, Bob, as the perfect beach car for his winter home in Naples, Florida. Upon Bob's death the car again found its way back to Rivermont to be purchased by Steve Pracadillac interiory for his father-in-law, Mel Foster, as a remembrance of the friendship between Mel and Bob. The classic is back! With only 46,000 miles on it the rare convertible will once again make an appearance at this year's fundraiser to be held May 1, 2010 at Crow Valley Golf Club. The car will be available for viewing at Rivermont (dates to be announced) as well as the night of the event.

This car is a classic and difficult to find!  One was recently sold on EBay for $18,500!  This is an opportunity not to be missed!
