Dear Rivermont Community,
Marion
Crandell was a French language instructor at St. Katharin e's in the early 1900's and left for Paris
to aid soldiers during World War I. Since she had been educated in Paris, she felt that her knowledge of France and the
language would be extremely helpful. A German artillery shell hit the hostel
where she was working as a YMCA canteen worker on March 27, 1918. Marion
Crandell was the first American woman killed while in active service in World
War I.
Each year on Marion Crandell Day we celebrate the years of service of our faculty and staff. These dedicated individuals have devoted a combined 337 years of service to the students of Rivermont Collegiate. Although we appreciate each and every one, we took a moment during a school assembly on Wednesday to celebrate some anniversaries.
Five years of service: Shalar
Brown
Rex
Masterson
June
McWilliams
Ten years of service:

Charlie Rodriguez
Rivermont
Collegiate is about its people and it is an honor to recognize this special group of people in
our community, those who teach and do the work of the school so its students
can learn and its parents can be assured that their children will be cared for
in all ways.
Rivermont is known for its dedicated instruction in the 3 R's -- reading, writing, and arithmetic (obviously with liberties in spelling) however we are equally concerned about the other 3 R's -- respect, responsibility, and relationships. Many thanks to our parents who value them, our students who learn them, and our faculty and staff who model and guide them.

Cultural Learning Experiences in 3rd Grade
We come from many different places with different experiences

Arash Asadi's mother recently visited the 3rd grade
class to explain about Iran's
New Year celebrations. She brought
pictures of Iran
to show to the class. Everyone enjoyed
some delicious cream puffs. She gave
each child a special decorated egg with his or her name written in Farsi.
Earlier in the week the class enjoyed a visit
from Joscalyn's mother. She came to talk
to the class about Joscalyn Boyer's heritage from many different places. The class was excited to hear about
Joscalyn's Native American heritage. One
of her ancestors married a Blackfoot Princess.
Joscalyn's mother also told the class about her job as a
firefighter. Students enjoyed trying on
the firefighter suit, boots, and helmet and were amazed at the weight. Joscalyn's little brother, Dylan, came to
visit. Dylan's father told the class
about his work at John Deere as an engineer.
A few weeks ago the class enjoyed a visit from Solange Bol ger's mother and
father. Both parents talked about their
native countries. Solange's mother
showed beautiful pictures of Venezuela. The students colored in a map with the
different parts of the country. She also
taught the class some Zumba dancing.
Solange's father told the class about working in the hospital as an
emergency room doctor. He brought
pictures from France and
told the class about some of his childhood adventures in France.
Thanks to our parents for sharing their family's cultural heritage with us!

Zoo for the Day?!?
Help us adopt an animal
Would any Lower School
student like to bring a toy or stuffed animal to school? Listen up to hear the exciting news. For one of our spring service projects, Lower School Student
Council would like to Adopt-an-Animal from the Niabi Zoo. Our donations would help an animal receive
nutritious snacks and toys that help them exercise and PLAY! In order to raise money, we need you to donate
at least 50¢ to bring your stuffed animal/toy to school and introduce them on
stage during morning meeting on Friday, April 2nd. We hope you will participate and make
