Dear Rivermont Community,
Participation in a wide variety of course offerings, support in making informed choices, and preparing for the demands of the 21st century are ahllmarks of a Rivermont education.
Beginning in the Early
School children are encouraged to speak in front of an audience.
Whether it is Circle Time, Morning Meeting, Living Biographies, or
classroom presentation Rivermont provides many opportunities for
students to develop public speaking skills and self confidence.
Independent study is an option in the Upper School. This year students have been delving into women's literature, the Middle East, piano, and public health.
Students of all ages interact in academic and community building activities learning from each other and building ties across grades and school divisions. Reading Buddies, O.L.E. Day and Imp-Tiger Days promote peer connections and become long-lasting memories.
Small classes enable teachers to know their students so they can provide both the support and challenge that empowers students to become independent learners.
As a PS-12 school, we can follow a student's growth and development and customize her/his experience by promoting activities that broaden and by introducing opportunities that deepen knowledge and skills.
Students receive individualized college counseling that helps each student maximize his/her experience at Rivermont. Students research college options to understand the wealth of opportunities that exist so they can make an informed choice as they seek the "right fit" for college.
Our curriculum is both reading and writing intensive which not only enables our students to meet the challenges and opportunities of college but prepares them to be strong, articulate communicators and learners in their professional careers.
Students can explore a wide variety of enrichment opportunities in the Mini Courses available in the Middle and Upper School. They also have a hand in deciding Mini Course options and might even lead one.. Yoga, science research, MathCounts, ACT/SAT prep, improvisations, origami, international film are just a few of the offerings.
We are a school of participants!

KUDOS
Intellect - Character - Creativity
Sixth grader Hannah Hansen took 1st place in the annual Block Kids Building
Contest at the Family Museum on February 13th. The Lego building contest is
sponsored by the Quad City Chapter 50 National Association of Women in
Construction. She won a $100 Savings bond, and her construction will be passed on
to the regional competition which will take place on March 30th. Congratulations Hannah and Good Luck on the 30th!
Fifth grader Kaitlyn Mayfield has earned the Technician's Class Amateur Radio license. Amateur radio operators perform an important public service by providing emergency communication services in times of emergencies and natural disasters. Their communication skills are far reaching. They assist governments, agencies, as well as individuals, and families when disaster strikes. This can be witnessed by the devastation brought about during the recent earthquakes. Cell phones and phone lines lose power, but radio communications are sent via radio frequencies and all actions are monitored by the Federal Communications Commission. Kaitlyn has been issued a call sign that identifies her. Her call sign is KC9REW. Way to go Kaitlyn!

Tuition Assistance
Rivermont's tuition assistance program is designed to help the School enroll an academically talented and socially and economically diverse student body. The School commits a percentage of its operating budget to need-based tuition assistance along with endowed funds donated to support the School's economic diversity.
Kindergarten through Grade 12 families interested in applying for tuition assistance are directed to the School's website where the procedure is outlined and links to the necessary forms can be found. Rivermont enlists the services of School & Student Service by NAIS to calculate a family's estimated contribution to tuition. This calculation and the resources available at Rivermont are then considered by the Tuition Assistance Committee in recommending or denying a grant. Interested families should begin the process immediately as funds are limited.
Feel free to contact Business Manager, Jenny Nicol for additional information. nicol@rvmt.org or (563) 359-1355, ext. 315.
