Dear Rivermont Community,

The School year is moving along and we find ourselves already one month into the year.  Last Friday students and faculty traveled to Scott County Park for our annual O.L.E. Day.  In the past, this was primarily a Lower School event however last year we decided to include the Middle and Upper Schools.  It was energizing to watch students form various grades interact in both learning and play.  Students prepared their morning snack by building a solar oven to make s'mores.  One group even got the bus drivers to help.  Dave Murcia, the Director of the Wapsi River Environmental Education Center spent time with our students talking about water conservation and the recent efforts of Scott County Park.  This also served as one of our cardio activities for the day as we walked to the pond and to the reclamation site.  There was of course more on the playground and during games of red rover and arm link tag.  It was a great day and a much enjoyed Rivermont tradition.

Speaking of tradition, Friday, September 18 is Mini Imp-Tiger Day.  Imp - Tiger teams go back so far in our School's history that no one has been able to tell me when they actually began.  Everyone will come to School that day proudly wearing their house colors and then the competition will begin.  Whose year will it be?  The Imps?  The Tigers?

Of course, we can't forget that the following Friday is our 125th Anniversary Celebration.  Be sure to RSVP for a fun evening of celebration and memories.

125th Anniversary
Celebrating St.Katharine's - St. Katharine's-St. Mark's - Rivermont

It's not everyday that a school can say it has been educating students for 125 years.  Our School has touched the lives of thousands of students and their families.  Our graduates and former students represent all walks of life and every field of business and academics.  Many have distinguished themselves in their field, in their service, in their communities.  It is on the shoulders of those who came before us tha
t we are able to achieve the many accomplishments for which our School has Mansion & Bechererbecome synonymous.

On September 24th the teachers and students
will celebrate our heritage by taking a step back in time.  What was school like in the beginning?

Friday, September 25th we will gather as parents, alums, faculty and staff, trustees, and friends to toast the success of the past 125 years and look ahead to the next.  Be sure to RSVP.  If you need additional invitations, please contact Development Director, Drew Boster boster@rvmt.org

King Henry V
By William Shakespeare
Directed by James Bohnen

Prince Hal, now King Henry V, is on the brink of becoming one of Britain's greatest leaders. But there are obstacles. Two monarchies rampant with nationalism, a costly war, the lives of the ordinary people who suffer it. Work your thoughts and grapple your minds to the decks of fleets majestical, from England to France and back again.

H1N1 Flu
Precautions at Rivermont
  H1Ni
The Scott County Health Department encourages area schools to prepare for this year's flu season. Both the seasonal flu and H1N1 flu can be prevented using basic precautions such as staying home if sick, covering coughs, practicing proper hand washing, and getting a seasonal and/or H1N1 flu shot when available.

1.  Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette:

Wash hands frequently with soap and water when possible, and cover noses and mouths with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (or a shirt sleeve or elbow if no tissue is available).
2.  Routine cleaning:
School staff will routinely clean areas that students and staff touch often with the cleaners they typically use. CDC does no
t believe any sneezeadditional disinfection of environmental surfaces beyond the recommended routine cleaning is required.
3.  Stay home when sick:
Those with flu-like illness should stay home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever, or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medicines. They should stay home even if they are using antiviral drugs.
4.  Separate ill students and staff:
Stud
ents and staff who appear to have flu-like illness will be sent to a room separate from others until they can be sent home.
