Summer Concert Listings, 2011

 

 

Bedford's Concerts on the Common: Presented by the Bedford Recreation Department, these free concerts on Bedford Common begin at 7 pm. Rain cancellations or postponements will be posted on the Recreation Department's website www.bedfordrecreation.org.

There will be an ice cream social, courtesy of First Parish and Bedford Farms, during the July 28 concert. 

The Old Manse, Concord: Free concerts every Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. The music will be varied, from Roaring Jelly, a "massed" contra dance band to BSO oboist John Ferrullo.  Picnics and children are welcome; bring your lawn chair or a blanket.

Backyard Music Festival, Lowell: UMass Lowell's Tsongas Center, along the scenic Merrimack River, offers free summer family concerts. Food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at each show. Performances begin at 6 pm; in the event of rain, the performances will take place in the Tsongas Center lobby.

Lowell Folk Festival:An annual presentation of traditional artists from across the country along with foods and crafts from many countries.

  • July 29   Kick-off parade (6:30 pm) followed by music and ethnic foods at the Dutton Street Dance Pavilion and Boarding House Park (from 7 pm).
  • July 30   Music, ethnic foods, crafts demonstrations throughout downtown Lowell (noon until 6 pm); a parade (6:40 pm); music at the Dutton Street Dance Pavilion and Boarding House Park (from 7 pm).
  • July 31   Music, ethnic foods, crafts demonstrations throughout downtown Lowell (noon until 6 pm)

Fruitlands Museum, Harvard: Enjoy a stunning view and live performances during the museum's Sundown Concert Series at 7 pm on Wednesdays, through August 31.

The Concord Band - admission is per car: members, $10; nonmembers, $15.

Wayside Inn, Sudbury:  Fresh Strawberry Concerts are an annual fundraising concert series performed every Tuesday in July in the air-conditioned Martha Mary Chapel!Enjoy some first rate family-friendly entertainment  with separately-priced home-made strawberry shortcake served at intermission. Admission: $15/person; reservations required.

Summerstage at Concord Academy:  Performances will be held in the Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater at Boston's Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA). For the July 15 and the July 23 performances, a bus will depart the East Gate at Concord Academy at 5:30 pm and leave the ICA immediately following the performance, returning to Concord. Box suppers are welcome on the bus.
