Laurel HugginsArtist's Statement:
To fuel my love for wearing fun and unique jewelry,  I started making my own wearable art .  I began by stringing semi precious stones, glass beads and sterling silver finds together with my sister.  I then devoted a year working with an artist in her fused glass studio.  We made everything from jewelry to fused glass cabinet inserts, lamps and clocks.  But my love for jewelry resurfaced and I found myself purchasing a small kiln to create fused glass jewelry pieces in my own studio.

Most recently I have spent my time training in the art of metalsmithing  at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass.  The medium of metalsmithing allows me to integrate my fused glass pieces with rich and acquiescent metals like silver and copper.  Much of my inspiration comes from nature, so I love to incorporate organic items and ideas into my jewelry.  I also enjoy fold forming the metal to give it a more natural and 3D look.   The combination of silver and copper, semi precious stones and fused glass give my jewelry its uniqueness.  I constantly find myself exploring new mediums to enrich and enhance my jewelry and to create one- of- a-kind-pieces.

I look forward to creating with you.
