Alloy Orchestra & Douglas Fairbanks in Bedford
Bedford High School Auditorium, Friday, May 21 at 7 pm
BCA's most important fundraiser of the year may also prove to be one of its most entertaining.
Return with BCA to the days when films were silent, but with an up-to-the-minute techno-twist--a brand new score composed by the Boston area's own Alloy Orchestra.
Bedford Center for the
Arts will host a special family-friendly screening of the silent-film classic The Black Pirate,
starring Douglas Fairbanks, with live accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra.
BCA encourages kids (and adults) to come
dressed in pirate costumes so they can join in the Pirate Parade that will take place during
intermission. At the end of the evening, the audience is invited to visit the
stage for a closer look at Alloy Orchestra's "rack of junk."
The evening's entertainment also includes a short, contemporary silent film, Dragonflies, The Baby Cries,
by award-winning filmmaker Jane Gillooly. Alloy's accompaniment brings the deep forest to life
and enhances the film's blurring of fantasy and reality. Both films on the BCA program are suitable for children. The performance will
take place on Friday, May 21, at 7:30 pm in the Bedford High School Auditorium,
9 Mudge Way.
Tickets are $15 for BCA members, seniors and children; $20 for adults who are
not BCA members with a maximum cost of $50 per family. Tickets are available in advance at the following Bedford locations: Auntie
Erl's Exchange (119 Great Road, Bedford Florist (315 Great Road), Chip-In Farm
(201 Hartwell Road) and Fetch IT (48 Great Road). For additional information or to reserve tickets, click to e-mail Lee Vorderer or telephone 781-541-0748.
ALLOY NEWS OF NOTE: Alloy Orchestra was recently chosen by none other than cable giant Turner Classic Films to create a score for Metropolis, a silent classic recently previewed in Hollywood (click to hear Alloy on WBUR!)
