An anonymous donor makes a gift to BCA

BCA recently received word from the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund that we are the recipients of a gift made through the generosity of a Gift Fund donor who wishes to remain anonymous. The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund is a public charity with a donor-advised fund program that allows donors the privilege of, among other things, recommending grants to qualified public charities.

BCA couldn't be more pleased, and extends many thanks our benefactor.

Alloy Orchestra returns to Bedford
Save the Date: May 23!

The Alloy Orchestra is bringing Douglas Fairbanks' 1926 tale The Black Pirate and their inventive original score to Bedford this spring.

One of the first films shot in color, The Black Pirate combines a gripping plot with some of the most gorgeous footage of the silent era. A short subject, Dragonflies, The Baby Cries will complete the program.

BCA Volunteer Wish List
A new Treasurer and Membership Chair

Jean Hammond, BCA's intrepid and long-serving Treasurer, would love to turn over the responsibility for handling our books and preparing our annual tax statements. It's not an onerous task, full training is available and Jean stands ready to answer each of your questions now as well as once you're on-the-job.

And our membership rolls could use some specific attention. We have a simple but accurate and up-to-date database as a starting point, but a real membership program is more than information. It's about keeping renewals current, for sure, but also about being sure that new members are recruited and welcomed.

Do you have an eye for new faces or a head for figures and a yen to get involved? For further information, email BCA or call 781-275-0742.

Coming in April
But you can register now.. .. ..

Lois Pulliam will lead a two-session play-reading group on Tuesday evenings, April 6 and 13. The fee for the two-session group is $15; an individual session is $10.

And BCA will host a four-part photo series in late April and early May.

Local photographers Joan Ross and Michael Milicia will be joined by Liz West and the Boston Globe's Teresa Hannafin (editor of Boston.com's RAW blog for amateur photographers).

Joan will speak on the art of seeing; Michael will help you get your best exposure; Liz West will explain the basics of Photoshop Elements. Teresa Hannafin will close the series by talking about the state of amateur photography in the Boston area.

The fee for the full four-session photo series is $30; individual workshops are $10 each.

E-mail BCA to indicate your interest in either workshop.

There's a lot going on this month!

According to the Boston Globe, "Madame White Snake is the first opera commissioned in Boston in decades," said Carole Charnow Granger, Bedford resident, BCA member and general director of Opera Boston. "Something on this scale is unprecedented here.'' Click to read more about Opera Boston's world premiere.

This year's prestigious American Craft Council show in Baltimore included our own glass artist Mary Johannessen along with her work.

Mary reports that this national show was interesting and that her contacts list has grown; several furniture craftsmen are interested in incorporating her textured glass door panels in their work.
