 October Community Events
Bedford nature photographer and BCA member Michael Milicia's prints and calendars will be available both through his website and at the Natural Resources
Trust Harvest and Crafts Fair on the Sheep Pasture in North Easton on
Sunday, October 4 from 10 am to 5 pm (rain or shine) with activities for all
ages throughout the day. A variety of entertainers will be at the fair,
as well as food and juried crafters. For information:

BCA member Rob Dobson's jewelry will be available in
the West Concord Designers Open Studios on October 22, 23, & 24 at
Robin Bergman's atelier at 23 Bradford Street (978-369-1925)
Rob will
also appear with dancers from Hampshire College in an
in-the-round experiential dance program at Tufts University's Jackson
Dance Lab at 8 pm on October 31.
Lexington's Special Needs Arts Program will present their festive annual fund raising concert on
October 25 at 3 pm in the Follen Church sanctuary on Mass Avenue in East
Lexington. The program will feature The Halalisa Singers along with SNAP's
Sing Along Singers and Sing Along Choruses. SNAP is a local non-profit that provides recreational music
and art programs in the BCA Space for people in nearby communities.
Vintage textiles are on display at Lexington Arts &
Crafts Society from October 3 to 17 during regular society hours. During
the opening reception on October 3 you can have your antique textiles valued for a
$5 donation.
 This year, the annual Haunted House at First Parish
on the Common becomes a Monster Bash featuring classic monster movies. (Click to watch Alex's video!) Check The Haunted House Monster Bash website for full details. The Haunted House will be open on October 24 with two all-new and
separate experiences on the afternoon and evening of a single day. * Fun for younger kids from 2 until 5 pm * Scarier experiences for older kids from 6 until 9 pm Admission: Adults: $6; Kids 2-13: $5; Seniors: $4. The Suzuki Association of Massachusetts presents two
events during October:
- Alfie Kohn
will speak on "Bribing Students To Learn: Second Thoughts About A's,
Praise, Stickers, and Contests," on Sunday, October 4 at 3 pm. Seating is
limited; reserve your place by emailing Sheryl LaFayette, or calling her at (978)-318-9033
Admission: $10 for Suzuki members and $25 for
nonmembers.
- Bedford's
Dr. Suzuki Birthday Celebration includes a solo recital, a silent auction,
refreshments and a Concerto Play-in. Funds raised will benefit the Suzuki-MA
scholarship fund. Sunday, October 18th, at 3 pm.
Both
events will take place in the sanctuary at First Parish on the
Common, 75 The Great Road.
 The Bedford Chamber of Commerce will host Flavors of
Bedford on November 1 from 4 until 6 pm at the Doubletree Bedford Glen
Hotel. Flavors is a classic Bedford event where you can sample gustatory delights from many restaurants in our area and socialize at the same time. Click for details and ticket information.
A World of Music, Middlesex Community
College's fall 2009 concert series, begins with three concerts including
an appearance by Bedford's own John Ferrillo, principal oboist of the
Boston Symphony Orchestra in the October 16th concert. All programs are
free and open to the public; they take place in Building 6 on MCC's
Bedford campus.

It's a Kid's World, a show of children's book illustrations created by local professional illustrators, is on display in the Bedford Library's gallery through November 18.
Library story hour sign-up is underway and the fun starts on October 5. John Tischio's teriffic 4-session opera program will begin on October 4, and Antiques Roadshow antiques expert Stuart Whitehead of Skinner Antiques (Boston) returns for What It's Worth, an antiques appraisal night at 6:45 on Wednesday, October 28. A classic silhouette portrait of your child is a
timeless treasure. Join the Bedford Family Connection (BFC) for its Portraits in
Silhouette fundraiser on October 17. A single silhouette is $29, with additional copies at $10 each; frames
will also be available for purchase and 20% of all sales benefit
BFC! You will need an appointment for this event; please email Michelle Colasante to
reserve a time.
On Friday,
October 23rd, the Family Connection has scheduled a fundraiser at Asiana Bistro. You can either eat-in or
take-out, but be sure to tell the staff you're with the BFC when you place your order so that 10% of
your total benefits BFC. Asiana Bistro's menu includes Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese,
Malaysian and Thai dishes so there's sure to be something that you will enjoy.
