Jennifer participates in Cycle the WAVE because she believes in the cause and what it supports. She loves seeing the positive impact this event has on women's lives. She likes how well supported the event is, not just from the participants, but also from the community of volunteers at rest stops who provide food and beverages, clean bathrooms and pretty flowers.
It is fun and rewarding-----especially for the 35-55 year olds many of whom grew up before Title Nine and the athletic opportunities available to young women today. Seeing women who do not think of themselves as athletes complete any of the distances of the ride is amazing; not to mention the smiles on the faces of those who think they can only ride a mile, and then ride 25! When Jennifer sees their new confidence realized, she admits this is why she coaches.
Being a survivor of childhood domestic violence herself, Jennifer says coaching is her way of giving back and helping empower women. She appreciates the awareness signs posted along the route that help educate riders and drivers about domestic violence.
In conclusion, I will leave you with this final bit of wisdom from Jennifer. "Find your passion. Practice self-care. Engage in activities that fill your soul and never underestimate yourself. It is important to focus on reaching up to the next level and grabbing the helping hand, as well as reaching below to help the person trying to reach the level you are at."
