Director's Message
Marie-Helene
Dress for Success Vancouver Board of Directors Chair Marie-Helene Pelletier

Successful times typically involve confidence -- "I can do this. I am excited about what is coming next."

My son, 5-year old Alexandre, started kinder-garten this September. As he tried on an outfit for school for the first time, a lot happened in his head - and in mine. And these thoughts impacted our feelings. For him, strong pride, some surprise, and excitement. For me, pride beyond reason, with eyes tearing up.

Why? Because something happens when we put special clothes on. Knowing you graduated on paper is one thing; wearing the graduation gown has something special. The experience transforms how we think and how we feel. Confidence grows, success comes.

The moment I learned about Dress for Success Vancouver, I knew this was an organization I wanted to join. As humans, we all have to go through changes. And change within ourselves occurs by changing how we think, how we feel, how we behave and it shows in how we look!

Our organization provides women support on many fronts, including dressing services, Career Centre, Professional Women's Group, mentorship and others. It leaves the power of returning to the workforce, developing a career, and changing their lives and the ones of their families in their hands.

This is the reason why I am here - I want to be part of that meaningful movement.

As new chair of the board, I can tell you we have very dedicated and passionate directors. People whom our women, volunteers, staff, members, sponsors and community can be proud of.

This is the organization I-- and I hope, you-- want to be going places with, and helping grow strong.

Help women return to the workforce, because it is good for all of us. We can do this, and what is coming next is good.

PWG Success Story

Trude LaBossiere Huebner
Trude LaBossiere Huebner
PWG Member

Every woman's journey with the Professional Women's Group (PWG) is one of perseverance and hope.  This is true of Trude LaBossiere Huebner's road to success.  During her battle with breast cancer, Trude was unable to work regularly which affected her financial outlook.  At the end of her treatment, she was ready to get back into the workforce.  After hearing about DFS through a job counsellor, getting that interview suit helped her land a part- time position.  However, she still felt she needed her mojo back. This led her to join the PWG.

The monthly meetings were a source of support and positive energy which helped her through a difficult time in her life.  The table networking opportunity offered her the chance to share experiences with other like-minded women who also had the desire to turn their jobs into fulfilling careers.  With the help of her mentor, Trude landed the job she wanted and through DFS got a fantastic suit to wear on her first day!

Trude will lead the PWG members in the 2011 Community Action Project, which provides PWG members with an opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community.
