What an amazing summer it’s been at South Coast Dancesport! From the inaugural Southern California Dancesport Invitational, to an extremely successful summer Showcase, Off Broadway, to competition brilliance culminating in a number of national titles for our studio, there seems to always be something happening at your favorite Orange County dance studio! With the weather (finally!) cooling off, we are very excited to bring you a bounty of activities to sample or dig right into this fall. From a Nationals After-Party to our epic Halloween Costume Party; from a night of cocktails and spectacular dancing at the Hollywood Dancesport Championships to world-renowned coaches seemingly every week; and from new staff members who are thrilled to help you grow in your dancing to the opportunity to hone your dance skills like a professional, this is a season to plug in to South Coast Dancesport!

Let’s start with our parties this month. If you didn’t know about it, the United States Dancesport Championships were held in early September. Representing South Coast Dancesport were students Christina Diaz, Patricia Schneider, Marina Sanchez-Torres, Cammie Schmidt, Monica Broch, Melissa Loble, and Michael Roosin. From this impressive group of dancers, the studio came home with 9 distinct Pro/Am national titles!! In honor of both these students’ effort, and those of their instructors, we are holding a celebration, an “After-Party,” if you will, on October 12th. That's this Friday, October 12th. We hope you will join us as we honor these successful and hard-working students. This will be a night featuring special professional performances, a chance for these competitive students to show you what they have worked so hard to hone (and that which sets them apart from the rest of the field) and a special peek at the new instructors here at South Coast Dancesport. We’ll start with an East Coast Swing Group Class at 7:00 p.m. and dancing and demos will continue till 10:00.

A mere two weeks later, our legendary Halloween Costume Party will remind you why South Coast Dancesport is the premiere studio in Southern California for social dance parties. From fog machines, frightening decorations, and awesome wine and food to great music, The Thriller Group Class and our epic costume contest, this is a night you won’t soon forget. The festivities begin at 7:00 p.m. with our very own Thriller expert, Ryan Crutcher, leading us in a classic he has taught each year the studio has been open, and continuing till we all turn into pumpkins; we hope you can join us Friday night, October 26th. Be there or be scared. All of our parties are free to studio students, or $5 to guests (and this includes the cost for the Group Class).

At the end of the month, we are looking forward to South Coast Dancesport participating in the Hollywood Dancesport Championships, October 31st-November 4th. This is a competition organized by Dancing with the Stars alum, Jonathan Roberts, So You Think You Can Dance judge, Mary Murphy, and former US Cabaret/Showdance champion and owner of the Millenium Dancesport Championships (one of the biggest pro/am competitions in the nation), Michael Chapman. This is the studio’s first year attending this event, and we are really looking forward to it! With a great group of students already prepping for their moment under the lights, we thought we would do our best to support them (and enjoy some great dancing while we’re there) by holding a Cocktail Party on Saturday night (11/4). Held at the luxurious Loews Hollywood Hotel, we will meet at 6:30 p.m. for drinks and a few hours with our competitive dancers, then head to the ballroom for a night of incredible entertainment: featuring performances by American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance performers, a top ballet troupe, a breakdancing crew, plus the professional Smooth and Latin divisions. This night will be an unbelievable smorgasbord of dance and creative energy. At only $100/ticket, you are in for a treat. We are limited to only 25 tickets because of the demand for this evening, so please join us Saturday, November 4th. The price includes admission to the evening session (with front row tickets!), drinks and hors d’ouerves at the Cocktail Party and an incredible night of memories.

Briefly, let me tell you who we have coming to South Coast Dancesport in October! On the 1st of October, we enjoyed a great day with undefeated US Latin Champion Ron Montez; October 18th, we look forward to welcoming Paul Holmes—US Standard Finalist and British National Champion, UK National Champion, and World Cup Champion—for a full day at the studio; US Champion and World Finalist Heather Smith will be back on October 25th; and our SCD TV choreographer and US Latin Champion Tony Meredith will return on November 1st and 2nd.
