South Coast Dancesport - The Coaster - June 2010

What an amazing weekend to have a Holiday on, wouldn’t you say? I hope you had the opportunity to get outside and truly enjoy the warm, sunny, Southern California weather. As the first month of summer begins, this edition of The Coaster is here to remind you about our June party and give you a heads up on a couple of exciting events coming to South Coast Dancesport.

BEACH PARTY!

First of all, our monthly Practice Party is this Friday, June 4th at 8 p.m. We initially advertised it as this Saturday, but decided that Friday night made the most sense.  This is our ‘beginning of Summer’ Beach Party, so it is quite appropriate to come in your favorite beach attire: from board shorts and wetsuits to suntan lotion and beach balls—we’re going to have a great night!  Expect Mai Tais, fresh fruit and a musical play list full of great summer music.  We can’t wait to see you there!

Syllabus Instruction Series

As we mentioned in The Coaster a few weeks ago, we recently added a new instructor, Stephanie Olsen, to the staff at South Coast Dancesport.  Stephanie not only brings a passion for dance, but such a contagious energy for great teaching that we want you to have the opportunity to work with her right away.  Do you ever feel like you can’t remember what steps go with what dances, or what step to do next?  Well, starting Tuesday, June 22nd, Stephanie will be handling our brand new Syllabus Instruction Series.  These classes will train you on all of the steps built into our DVIDA syllabus (the step list from which all of the instructors at the studio teach).  Designed to supplement your private lessons, Syllabus Instruction Series are an excellent way to break down, clarify and combine all of your steps.  Even if you are brand new to dancing, these series are available for all skill levels, so you will not feel out of place.  Classes are taught from 7:45-8:30 and require pre-registration.  The first style Stephanie will be teaching will be Smooth!

Night on the Town

Lastly, one of the most enjoyable competitions of the year is upon us in the form of the San Diego Dancesport Championships.  We want even those not participating in the competition a chance to experience live ballroom dancing at its highest levels, and so we have put together a thoroughly entertaining evening you will not want to miss.  Friday night, June 11th, we have chartered two limousines to take us to the Gaslamp District in San Diego for a night on the town.  We will meet at the studio at 7 p.m. and take the limos downtown for a beautiful dinner at Café Sevilla, an authentic Spanish style tapas bar and restaurant.  After dinner, we will head to the competition and watch the professionals in all styles put on an amazing show.  This all-inclusive evening provides your transportation, dinner and drinks and session ticket to the competition.  We anticipate it being a full evening, with drop-off at the studio by around 1 a.m.  At only $150 for the entire evening, this spectacular event is limited to the first 15 students.
