As promised, this supplement to The Coaster is to let you know about a very exciting visitor to South Coast Dancesport this week! But before we can get to that, allow us to share a bit of our success at the very first Tri-Studio Team Match held this last Saturday.

South Coast Dancesport joined up with Cheryl Burke Dance and Century Ballroom for an exciting day of island fun and raucous dancing! Representing the South Coast Dancesport team was Kathy Lynch, Kristi Kindred, Trish Van Mourick, Bonnie Bauer and Megan Jacklin. Nearly ten other students from the studio came Saturday afternoon simply to cheer on and support our team. But to be honest, it sounded more like 30! And the other studios must have noticed, because at the end of the day South Coast Dancesport was awarded the Top Team Spirit award. This trophy is the most challenging to earn. We were up to the task.

Bolstered by the cheers of their teammates, Kathy Lynch and Trish Van Mourick won Top Student Awards in the Bronze and Silver categories, respectively. For such a well-attended event, we are very proud of the achievements of both our students and our spectators. Thank you for making this event such a great time and an incredible success!

Okay, onto the week’s big news: Charlotte Jorgensen, a World Champion as an amateur and a finalist in the Open Professional division at the British, UK, European, and World Championships will be teaching at South Coast Dancesport this Wednesday. Widely considered one of the premier Smooth and Ballroom coaches in the United States, Charlotte trains many of the top competitive couples in the country. And she will be working with our students and professionals. Though she will only be at the studio for one day, we have asked Charlotte to set aside one lesson to hold a special training workshop for students at any level. So, whether you have taken 2 lessons or 200, you can anticipate receiving great information that you will be able to take home and practice right away.
Taking the place of our 7 p.m. Wednesday Group Class, this 45-minute workshop will be priced at a very low rate ($10 per person!) in order to encourage as many people as possible to attend. Charlotte will be discussing the right way to present oneself on the floor, be it as a social dancer or a competition dancer. Do you want to know what makes the best dancers look so good as they float across the floor? She will discuss body alignment and ease of movement. We have asked her to focus her information on the most popular ballroom dances: Waltz and Foxtrot. There will also be a 10-minute question and answer section where you can ask this World Finalist any question you would like about your dancing. It is sure to be a very exciting evening
