Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Coaster, South Coast Dancesport’s periodic newsletter created with one goal in mind: to keep you up to date on all the latest news and upcoming events in which Orange County’s premier ballroom and Latin dance studio is involved. Before we jump into the days ahead, let’s look back briefly at the month past. At the Emerald Ball in early May, South Coast Dancesport students Kathy Lynch, Trish Van Mourick and Bonnie Bauer were the belles of the Ball. Kathy was a Top 20 Dancesport Series winner, Trish won Top Silver International Style student and Bonnie won top Team Manager (oh wait, that was an award she gave to herself). We are proud of the whole team and thank all of you who came to cheer us on and joined us at the Cocktail Party in Matt Gregory’s suite at the end of the weekend.

June is an exciting month in the dance world, particularly in Southern California! To kick things off with a bang, South Coast Dancesport is having its monthly Practice Party the first Friday of the month (6/5). This party provides you the opportunity to make practical use of all those lessons and classes you have been attending. We will begin the party with a short group lesson taught by instructor Ryan Crutcher, then for the next hour and a half we will play an excellent mix of the dances you have been learning. This party also provides the perfect opportunity to bring a friend or family member (or total stranger) who may be curious about dancing. Next on the calendar for June is the San Diego Dancesport Championships beginning June 11th through the 14th. This fantastic competition is held at the gorgeous Westin Horton Plaza in the gaslamp district in downtown San Diego and looks to be one of the real highlights of the summer! South Coast Dancesport students Kathy Lynch and Trish Van Mourick will be competing in the Pro/Am division with their instructor (and studio owner) Matt Gregory. Finally, the Great American Jack and Jill O’Rama 2009 takes place the second weekend of June in Garden Grove. This exciting event features some of the premier names in the West Coast Swing world as judges and workshop teachers. This competitive swing event will be both exciting to watch and participate in.
