Guides Gear Competition!
QUICK LINKS
Welcome to the Guide's Quarterly
Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School will be sending you this new quarterly news letter rather than emailing all the time. We have created a condensed newsletter with current events and programs at FMG. This month also includes a gear giveaway and 'Guides Tech Tip' video.

Everything is going well at FMG with another busy summer currently in progress! As the Southeast's largest guide service we have a whole array of programs currently in progress from Summer Camps, day guiding and instruction to skills courses and Military training programs. At the moment our eight fulltime guides are busy working seven days a week!

We thank you for climbing with us and look forward to climbing with you again soon!

Raising the Bar
At FMG we know that the quality of a guide service is due to its guides, we are therefore proud that we have the most qualified and highest certified guides in the Southeast. This spring alone we have seen six of our employees complete seven American Mountain Guides Association courses or certifications! AMGA certification is the standard in guiding today and we congratulate the accomplishments of our instructors and guides.

Karsten Delap excelled through the AMGA Rock discipline to become the second AMGA Certified Rock Guide in the southeast! He also successfully completed the AMGA Alpine Guide course while in CO. FMG's Senior Guide Ron Funderburke completed his AMGA Rock Guide Course/Aspirant Exam, becoming an AMGA Aspirant Rock Guide. Recent AMGA Rock Instructor Course graduates include Lindsay Fixmer, Tracy Martin and our summer Intern Stephen Van Sickle.

A welcome to our new employees:
AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructors:

Billy Ice Climbing with Fox Mountain Guides in NHIce Climbing in New England
Ok, ok, so ice climbing is the last thing on your mind in this summer heat, but right now is the best time to plan your winter excursion with FMG to take advantage of our huge discounts! For this year's New England trip, we are offering an "Early Bird" 20% discount  for our Ice Climbing 101, 201 courses and individual days of ice guiding when you book before September 1st. We are also offering a 10% discount for bookings made before November 1st.

February 2010 will be FMG's 5th annual ice climbing program in the New England region. We will again be renting the amazing 18 person cabin just outside the Northeast 'ice climbing capital' of North Conway and offering an array of ice climbing courses and guiding opportunities.  The great conditions and stellar ice climbing coupled with the complete package of accommodation, food and staying with the guides make this an unforgettable trip. The trip caters to the complete novice through to the hardened ice guru!

Aconcagua , 22,841ft

Argentina's Aconcagua is the highest peak outside of Asia and one of the famous "Seven Summits" of the world.  Fox Mountain Guides is offering the 21 day expedition this December and already has two clients signed up!  We are honored to have IFMGA/AMGA (Rock, Alpine, Ski) Certified Guide Dale Remsberg working for FMG to lead the expedition. As well as being a full IFMGA/AMGA Certified Guide, Dale is also the head of the AMGA's Alpine training and certification program.

Aconcagua, Fox Mountain Guides

We are offering only six spaces for this expedition.  The small expedition size coupled with our expert guides, allows for Fox Mountain Guides to provide the highest quality service that you expect from us.

"Summiting Aconcagua in 1997 was an amazing experience, not only for the accomplishment but also spending time in the wonderful Andean Mountains and Argentina. I have always wanted for Fox Mountain Guides to offer this expedition. We have worked hard to find incredible guides to make it happen". Adam Fox

Donations

At Fox Mountain Guides we like being part of the climbing community and supporting our local and national organizations as much as we can. Here's how we have supported in 2009:
  • Continued our support of The Access Fund, upgrading to 'Major Partner' level (gave $1,200)
  • Renewed Partnership with the Southeastern Climbers Coalition at 'Bronze Plus' level ($1,500)
  • Upgraded our Partnership with the Carolina Climbers Coalition (today!) to the brand new 'Lost in Space' level ($2,500)
  • Became the first Guide Service in the Southeast to become Partners with the American Alpine Club ($300)
  • Pledged $600 cash for the Looking Glass Access Fund Adopt A Crag event in August, becoming a title sponsor.

Fox Mountain Guides has given $6,100 in cash, product in services to these organizations so far in 2009 and we hope to be able to continue supporting with donations and assistance into the future!

FMG's Guides Tech TipGuides Tech Tip
Fort a longtime we have wanted to create online video tech tips but when do we ever find the time? Well finally we have! We hope to have four a year so if you have any ideas of what you want to see email us! This Tech Tip is from Karsten and Adam, who have made a video that looks at single and multipitch rappel techniques.

We hope you find it valuable!
