About Our Teachers
We practice because we want to open our hearts and anchor our lives. This means cultivating qualities that sustain us in both. This summer we emphasize the boundless states of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. These open the heart. We complement this by cultivating our capacity for calm, ease, and quiet strength. Combining both, we go more deeply into the beloved practice of Offering and Receiving (Tong Len).
Our special focus this summer is the crucial step of grounding love for others in love of ourselves; developing compassion for others through the door of compassion to self. Far from depleting our responsiveness to others, this tenderness toward self makes it possible to really embrace others. It also provides a ground for calm, ease, and real strength. Finally, we learn to synthesize all these qualities in the practice of offering and receiving.
