THE COURSE
This eight-week course will introduce beginners to the basics of meditation, including what to do during a session as well as how to make meditation a part of daily life.   These are simple and enjoyable techniques that anyone from any background can practice, both now and for years to come.  More advanced students are invited to review the basics of sitting and enjoy beginner's mind again.  This course will be perfectly suitable for adolescents and teens that are interested.

COURSE  LEADER
Claire Villarreal started practicing meditation in 1997 and has made several long trips to Asia to practice various meditation techniques in traditional cultural contexts.  She graduated from Rice in 1999 and began leading eight-week courses in 2004, and she is currently a third year  graduate student in the Rice University Religious Studies Program.
The course is $85, however, no one is turned away from any Dawn Mountain course for lack of funds.

 Letter From Dudjom Institute
Dear Students and Friends of Rinpoche,
We have decided on the 15th of January 2010 as the date for the cremation ritual ceremony (fire puja) for our Venerable Khetsun Sangpo Rinpoche, and this will be led by His Eminence Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche. We thought of doing the ritual on the 49th day but due to the date of the Nyingma Monlam Chenmo which Rinpoche has to attend and thus we decided on the above date.

We have been very pleased to see many old students of Rinpoche's coming to receive blessing from the Kudung (his holy body) which we have been keeping here with all respect. Rinpoche's Kudung has been kept in his room till now and we are planing to bring it down to the shrine hall tomorrow, on the second Duntsik (the end of the second week). We attach a picture of Rinpoche's Kudung which has been kept in the Kudung box along with many offerings.

Yours in the Dharma,

Tulku Jigme

PRACTICE
Daily, 6:30 p.m.
Feb 15-28
Losar is time when the  power of practice is multiplied 100,000 times.  This is also a good time to become acquainted with the main practices of Dawn Mountain, including elements of the  Foundational Practices as well as the calming practices which are essential for them.
Tibetan Symbols

Golden Fishes

The sea in Tibetan Buddhism is associated with the world of suffering, the cycle of samsara. The Golden Fish have been said to signify fearlessness and happiness as they swim freely through the oceans without drowning, freely and spontaneously, just as fish swim freely without fear through the water. The fishes symbolize happiness, for they have complete freedom in the water.

Dawn Mountain Mission
The mission of Dawn Mountain is three-fold. First, as a Tibetan temple offering traditional Buddhist teachings tailored towards contemporary Americans. Second, as a community center we provide  services including programs that promote physical and mental well-being independent of any religious orientation. And third, as a research institute we support translation of materials on Tibetan philosophy, ritual and culture.

DAWN MOUNTAIN is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and depends on the generosity and support of its donors to continue our mission.
