Through Black in America 2, I have been honored to meet and interact with Dr. Perry, who is an amazing man who refuses to believe that children who are labeled "at risk," many of whom are children of color, cannot succeed academically.  In fact, he is proving every day that when you raise the bar for children they will meet that goal.  Dr. Perry's philosophy on education is the exact opposite of the damaging, degrading, and embarrassing educational standard that Governor Jindal of Louisiana just put into law.  Governor Jindal's new legislation allows children to decide in 8th grade if they want to continue on a curriculum to aspire to go to college or if they want to take a technical curriculum that will prepare them for blue collar jobs.  Oh, how I wish that there was a Steve Perry for all of the children in the state of Louisiana!  I am thrilled, however, that Dr. Perry and I are working on a way that we can partner for the good of America's children.  He is an inspiration and all of us should follow his lead when it comes to our top priority - educating America's children.
